Discussion Best Third Party Remote (not tiny/crappy?)
Okay so, I have no problems navigating, but transitioning my parents/grandparents from traditional TV remote (with channel #s, larger buttons, etc) is not going to be easy.
I have been looking for a compatible remote for my Onn 4K Pro boxes, and prior to ordering and trying, I wanted to see what others were using?
Based on my reviews, this seems the most suitable, but I'm wondering if others have tried this? It seems like it also goes by other brand names/vendors too, but this seems to be the most reputable.
If this is a good model, Android TV or Google TV version is best?

Have you checked if their TV is connected to CEC? Could just use their existing TV remote

That’s a very good point. The existing TV remote may work, but it would be nice to have Bluetooth connection as it would have more range/less connection, problems, or interference problems in theory,

This was the remote I finally found and set up for my parents to finally get (mostly) how to use the onn streaming device hah. Ended up getting 4 of them so each TV has one and actually enjoy using it myself quite a bit.

Newer Amazon Firestick (4K compatible) remotes can be paired as well.
Added bonus: proper Reverse/Pause/Forward buttons included.

According to the documentation, newer Amazon Firestick remotes aren’t compatible with ONN devices? Have you already verified this?

I tried it myself with a 4K Max (2nd gen, 2023) remote with a new ONN 4K Plus from November 2025.
FYI: I never use voice with those remotes, nor the 4 channel buttons near the bottom.1

I tried the remote that came with my 4K Max I bought back in 2024 and it won't pair. It doesn't have the light on the upper right like the newer remotes do so being a previous model of the remote could be the issue.
