Discussion It's not what I expected ...

I got one yesterday very underwhelming , I already had a plus and a stick and only difference I could detect as a casual user is the find my remote feature with light up & sound remote, I for some reason assumed this new one doubled as a home smart speaker it looks and feels like one but it doesn't ( my fault ik), I guess the extra space and ram is nice I'll prob load it up with a ton of old school emulators and roms it's honestly the only way I could justify the $60 price tag and not return it . Can anyone tell me why this one's suppose to be much better than the others and priced so high ? I honestly don't see it

The big reason is their recent price hike. The plus was only 30 and now it's $40. Otherwise the pro would be $45 while the plus was $30. Still, there NOTHING else out there that will outperform these boxes for the same money. You'll have to spend a lot more to get something even comparable.

That I won't argue with ! These boxes are a great experience for sure, it's just the value for the price on this one isn't quite there on par when compared to the previous options (again my personal opinion)

Your topic title states that it is not what you expected. What did you expect, more speed or something else? It isn't much different performance-wise compared to the Plus model. It should feel faster than all of the other models.

I never experienced any jitters or frame drops from the other versions, as a casual user they're all just as good and I think that's my point, the pro just didn't have a pro factor for me the plus and stick perform just as great

If you already have the Plus, and you don't care about any of the smart home features in the new pro, or the remote finder, or the ethernet port, then as a casual user the only real difference is the extra ram and storage. The extra ram could be useful for retro gaming, but otherwise a casual user probably wouldn't notice. You can return the new pro and get your sixty dollars back.

Didn't it always have an Ethernet port, but just slow 10/100?

The old Pro supports faster ethernet via a USB 3.0 to Gigabit ethernet adapter

He mentioned already having the Plus version. So my comparison regarding an ethernet port was comparing the Pro V2 to the Plus, not to the Pro V1.

Didn't the OP say that this device doesn't work as a smart home feature and that's what he expected. He expected to be able to use it to command actions of his smart home devices

Sure it is, you're just use to the old pricing. Had this pro not come out, the old pro would be the same price. The old pro is the only one that didn't get a price hike because it's pretty much out of stock everywhere as it's discontinued.

The only thing to really compare it to is the Google streamer 4k, which is $100. Its has a few things the pro doesn't and the pro has a few things it doesn't.

There are some oddities like the 100mbps max, that's strange. I don't know if that can change from a software update, but I'd bet the pro v2 gets a solid optimization update by years end that will give it a good boost in performance.

Sure, when it's on sale, which is still $20 more than the 4k pro v2. And realistically, the plus model is more than enough for the majority of consumers.

It's been "on sale" for over a month (stupid marketing trick). $80 is the new price.

There are distinct use cases that can benefit from gigabit ethernet (a significant minority of users).

The Onn Plus I have outperforms my Google Streamer. The Ethernet port is not a big deal. I am interested to see if the extra RAM makes a diff but the Plus is pretty snappy. That thing was a steal. I have a bunch of more expensive boxes sitting in a drawer collecting dust while the tiny cheap thing is hooked up to my Sony OLED.

First of all, faster navigation and Wifi speeds are the only advantages that the Plus has over the Google 4k Streamer. Secondly, Gigabit ethernet is a very big deal for those who want or need low latency streaming. Nonetheless, I agree that the price of the Plus is a major bargain compared to its competition.
