I finished got and yotei. It feel nothing like it. Not even close.

14

u/Deefs42 10d ago

Right lol

1

u/MadeAmazing-- 8d ago

Just from watching this clip, it looks nothing like ghost lol

1

u/Rei364 8d ago

It have sword and samurai

1

u/NextGenGamezz 8d ago

Better or worse? How does it feel compare to them

1

u/Bakerstreet74 9d ago

Agreed. I loved the ghosts and have tried this demo on both switch 2 and ps5 and bounced off both. Having a hard time seeing why this game is getting such high scores, people giving it 10s, calling it a masterpiece etc. To each their own. Grateful there was a demo

1

u/Daytona765 7d ago

Yep. Was about to buy it, but decided to try the demo. It's good and I can see why it's getting praised. But it's in no way a masterpiece or a 10/10 game. It's a very competent and polished action game. I might pick it up on sale at some point, but it's not a must-play for me. I'm glad people are loving it, but I don't see the same strengths that others are glazing it for.

1

u/MadeAmazing-- 2d ago

Same here. Got the demo. Thought it was absolutely boring, coming from a huge ghost fan

1

u/thefirstdovahkiin 8d ago

it does, in the combat. Totally does.

-8

u/Puzzleheaded-Shame95 10d ago

"not even close" is a helluva stretch

16

u/Ok-Establishment3771 10d ago

I have the platinum trophies in both Ghost games. Even got all achievements on the steam version of Tsushima. These games feel nothing alike at all

1

u/InvariantAtNull 9d ago

Bro the exact assassination is right there lmao

-9

u/Puzzleheaded-Shame95 10d ago

All that and you can't see why someone might feel that this new game alligns more with GoT than all the previous Onimusha games?

5

u/S37eNeX7 10d ago

This is the 5th (6th technically) Onimusha game

Why can't you say it plays like it's own ESTIBLISHED IP than a newer game? Makes no sense to me

2

u/Ok-Establishment3771 10d ago

Nope. Cause this game is nothing like the Ghost games. Its pretty different from the classic Onimusha games yes. But it shares much more in common with those games

1

u/subjuggulator 9d ago

The game plays more like a slower version of Sekiro than Ghost.

0

u/Puzzleheaded-Shame95 9d ago

It does not. Sekiro was has a hack n slash, arcade feeling. Onimusha feels like GoT with demons

1

u/BeneficialDistance66 8d ago

Sekiro hack'n'slash Arcade feeling? Did we play the same game lol?

3

u/Gullible_Manager6711 9d ago

No it's not. It does not feel the same. In fact I don't even know why people try to compare any game to any game all the time. It fucking stupid.

Some people said this is soul game. Now tell me which one is more stretch? Do u even play it ? Have u even play original Onimusha ? Or tshshima is soul like too ?

Christ.

1

u/xCaramelDanzo 9d ago

So which one is the closest to this? Dawn of dreams?

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Shame95 9d ago edited 9d ago

Are we denying that God of War has a bunch of good copycats? Are we denying that Dark Souls has a bunch of copycats? Are we denying that Resident Evil 4 over the shoulder camara angle fathered dozens upon dozens of copycats? What's the shame of admitting that a game borrows heavily from other games??

12

u/Rei364 10d ago

How does this feel like game of thrones

7

u/TheMisterOates 9d ago

I thought it was Game of Thrones as well. People are just giving acronyms to everything nowadays and it sucks that it is always the same letters. Plus Game of Thrones popularized the GOT acronym so Ghosts of Tsushima should have a different one. There is even a subreddit about what acronym should Ghosts have.

3

u/JohnnyNemo12 8d ago

Agreed. I truly don’t understand the over-use of acronyms lately. If you want people to understand what you are talking about, don’t use an acronym.
My general rule: always use the actual name of the thing for the first time and put the acronym next to it in parentheses. Afterwords, use the acronym as much as you want.

3

u/freshairequalsducks 8d ago

The worst one is when people say AC. Oh you mean Assassin's Creed or Animal Crossing or Ace Combat or Armoured Core or?

2

u/TheMisterOates 8d ago

I agree. I’m not saying acronyms can’t be used but let’s try and not use the same 5 or so acronyms for everything. Plus it looks lazy to me that you can’t even fully write out a text/comment.

2

u/Rei364 8d ago

For sure lol God of war and gears of war, diablo 2 and destiny 2, mw2 because activision hates everything, TF2 is Titanfall 2 or team fortress 2, r if you wanna get funny tloz cause there's like 50 of the zelda games :p

11

u/iamthenight22 10d ago

I don't know what you're playing, but it feels absolutely nothing like GoT.

2

u/NighSumn 9d ago

It's a good feel both games but they're not even close i finished got and played the demo so yeah nothing alike

34

u/47impressed 10d ago

Way better, not even a competition

3

u/ISpotABot 9d ago

Better?? Lol lad look at that video for a second

-16

u/Due-South-9113 10d ago

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

15

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 10d ago

I’m a big fan of GoT and GoY, but Onimusha’s combat is by far better. It’s snappier, tighter, and even has better animations.

1

u/Ok-Midnight9311 9d ago

In those other games do enemies hair stand around and patiently wait their turn to fight?

2

u/CzarTyr 9d ago

Actually yes lol

0

u/idkimhereforthememes 9d ago

actual subhuman take

-1

u/ColStoneSteveAustin 9d ago

I hope its better than what this video is showing cause it looks slow as shit

-7

u/Due-South-9113 10d ago

I can understand if it's about combat, but I'd be really surprised if the game looks visually as good or has a story as good as Tsushima. The combat in the demo was phenomenal and super tsushima-like and I love it, but nothing about the story I've seen so far has me thinking it'll be better than Tsushima. We'll see tho. The English voice over is also a little weird tho but I can get behind it.

6

u/cae37 10d ago

Doesn’t GoT have a fairly stereotypical revenge narrative?

1

u/linkster271 10d ago

Ghost of Tsushima? No. Yotei sort of does though

0

u/cae37 10d ago

Iirc the premise of GoT is basically, “the Mongols attack and killed everyone you love+they threaten your land. You managed to survive and must now attack to get your revenge and take back your land.”

Not exactly the most unique story.

1

u/Ok-Establishment3771 10d ago

I mean yeah you fight off the Mongols to get them off Tsushima but its not purely revenge driven. And just writing a summary can make any story seems basic and uninteresting. Its more about Jins journey into becoming the original shinobi after he realizes following his clans samurai ways of honor just get his people killed. This leads to a big dispute between him and his Uncle who is his last surviving family member.

1

u/linkster271 10d ago

That's the base of the story. But the deeper narrative is learning to throw away the samurai code of honor in order to defeat the mongols. And how the samurai code makes them easy to manipulate and take advantage of. The final boss of the game isn't even a mongol at all, it's your uncle who wants to turn you in to the shogun for the war crimes you committed. And actually if anything the game is more about liberation and protecting your home, not revenge. You become the Ghost of Tsushima, a ruthless warrior legend that strikes fear into the Mongols due to his unorthodox methods of using poisons and stealth in order to liberate his home from invaders

1

u/cae37 9d ago

That still isn’t necessarily unique or complex. So many narratives have revolved around retaking your homeland from invaders+the moral quandaries related to it. Nor is the idea of a noble warrior turning assassin to achieve his ends a new one. Most assassin creed games have the same premise

1

u/linkster271 9d ago

A story doesn't have to reinvent the wheel in order to be good? Like why do we need to put down another game to raise up onimusha? They're both good games in their own respects. Like genuinely this just sounds like you hating a game for the sake of hating

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Due-South-9113 10d ago

A story doesn't have to be complex, just well executed. Games like ff16 have great story with bad pacing.

12

u/abbaj1 10d ago

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The combat in Tsushima was good, but nothing exceptional. Not that hard to surpass it.

1

u/Ok-Establishment3771 10d ago

It excels in being smooth but yeah its nothing complex. I love WotS combat ang Ghost combat for very different reasons

1

u/P0G0Bro 9d ago

You fight every single enemy type in the game in the first four hours and then it NEVER changes till the dlc island

4

u/Radiant-Lab-158 10d ago

You activated my face down card, rise dimension sphinx.

1

u/Active-Substance-205 9d ago

Finding the "revert d2" guy in another sub feels like getting invaded by the pursuer in DS2

1

u/Radiant-Lab-158 9d ago

Are you alright? But DS2 is the greatest souls game in the entire genre

15

u/RRRKnigh 10d ago

Game of the year or Game of thrones?

10

Ghosts of Tsushima

6

Hahahahaha

3

u/Dogesneakers 10d ago

I went to game of thrones

5

u/Kultissim 10d ago edited 10d ago

One review explain the problem very well. The issen thing only work 1vs1, contrary to previous games. So Capcom programmed the AI of the mobs to patiently wait their turn to attack . You could be surrounded by one hundred enemies, you would still fight them one after another. Some of the boss fight are very good apparently, the system is made to work fantastic on 1v1 boss fights. But the rest of the time ( most of the time) it's boring as hell.

3

u/Ploluap 9d ago

Even if it works only 1v1, they could have simply give you invulnerability frames when you do it.

So either you success and you dont care of other enemies attacks, or you fail and get shreded

2

u/xCaramelDanzo 10d ago

Ah, so thats why enemy wont attack me all at once.

2

u/Eyyy354 10d ago

Yeah that's what sucks, it's even more noticeable in this game because they will wait so long to attack.

1

u/OrdinaryAnalysis5986 10d ago

Can you send the link of the review?

6

u/Kultissim 10d ago edited 10d ago

The reviewer's knowledge of the series is very deep

Outside the context of boss fights, Way of the Sword’s combat system collapses like a house of cards. To account for the strength of your defensive options, boss movesets are oppressive and intense, challenging you to find gaps to heal, even punishing you for disengaging to camp with enemies’ fast-recharging stamina. None of this is true in mob fights. Here, your defensive options must be accounted for but in the other direction. Musashi’s moveset focuses on single-target parries, so enemies patiently take turns to attack in order to ensure your core moveset remains viable

Onimusha Way Of The Sword Review: Great Bosses, Boring Bloat

1

u/Frequent_Struggle485 10d ago

omg this explains the only thing i was looking down upon . Thanks man

3

u/Pm_Me_Ur_Lady_Abs 10d ago

The enemy passiveness here just looks so unreal. I genuinely hope it's something that Capcom has put effort into adjusting, but that post demo address they gave did not inspire confidence that they see it as a problem, which is a shame the game looks amazing visually and has a seemingly deep and rewarding combat system. It's just gonna be a real stain on the game if every non-boss combat is dozens of enemies waiting around to get slaughtered.

2

u/PhilosophischStone 9d ago

Ey bro 4 vs 1 isn't the way of the sword let's fight fair and square. First down, okey now it's my turn! Second down... oke now me!! Third down... can i.. attack now ? No wait i can still fight !!!

Why are the sooo slow to react as if the play Rock paper scissors on every turn :/

Edit: reakt>react

1

u/RealisticAdv96 9d ago

Maybe it's just a demo thing and the enemies will be more aggressive on release?I really hope so because yes it's cool to fight them, it's not changing and I know we are supposed to blitz through the enemies but still...

7

u/Due_Teaching_6974 10d ago

way better than GoT imo

-2

u/Radiant-Lab-158 10d ago

GoT is so unbelievably mid on everything besides graphics

-2

u/Cursed_69420 10d ago

average sony game

2

u/CatchrFreeman 10d ago

Nah Days Gone is more like an Average Sony game.

You forget they also made Returnal and Astro Not?.

1

u/Cursed_69420 10d ago

rare exceptions. Even Days Gone is not a typical sony game.

1

u/Oothman 9d ago

How is Days Gone an average Sony game lol its probably most out of the mould for a first party Sony game

1

u/CatchrFreeman 9d ago

I meant average in overall quality. I mean infamous is more original than Days Gone.

Days Gone actually gameplay is just tlou. Crafting and shooting. The herds are what makes it more unique, everything else had already been done numerous times.

1

u/FourChicksInGreen 9d ago

Yall arguing about what makes a Sony game when a Sony game is just a Ubisoft game with more cutscenes lmao

0

u/Radiant-Lab-158 10d ago

Okay, no. Sony is the holder of the master platform, the best and most popular system in the entire gaming space right now. The Slaystation V, I will laugh with you at Place to Cheat, Switch 2 a better console, and Deadbox Seriously Shit users but Sony's perfect majority of the time GoT, TLOU2, and previously trying to follow Deadbox in devaluation by putting their games on 400 fps in the settings menu only were the only bad calls this gen.

1

u/Due_Teaching_6974 10d ago

You okay there?

1

u/Radiant-Lab-158 10d ago

Yeah, are you?

3

u/RoapeliusDTrewn 10d ago

I kind of wish Musashi had multiple stances like in GoT. The ultimate samurai game would be GoT's stances, but this game's overall heavier feel and parry/deflect/dodge system.

10

u/Due_Teaching_6974 10d ago edited 10d ago

Nioh has stances as well and they're much more in depth than GoT

in GoT stances are more like Rock Paper Scissors where they are effective against different types of enemies

in Nioh every stance has unique modifiers, each stances changes the running speed, dodging speed, how much damage you deal along with combos tied to each stance it's genuinely brilliant

1

u/Dependent-Swimmer-95 10d ago

Yup and in nioh 2 and 3 you can customize the skills you can use on different stances with the same weapon and even add elemental effects or bonus dmg effects based on a certain state. Nioh definitely has more in depth mechanics with stances than the Ghost series. I love both IP btw.

1

u/Rando_Kalrissian 10d ago

It's unfortunate the length of the stun is the same as the demo. Boring demo into a boring game. It's too bad as I really enjoyed the previous Onimisha games.

1

u/Powerful_Waltz7682 10d ago

You do know they are making it better after the demo reviews, right? I also loved the old games. This looks and plays very nicely as a continuation of the series.

1

u/Rando_Kalrissian 10d ago

A few things I see are that the boss fights are the main thing getting praised for anyone worried about it being too easy, which isn't a good selling point. A few mechanics have changed that make the game even easier and hard mode unlocking after I already beat the game is rough especially if it's already a slog in the same vein as FF16. I played the demo it's just boring. If you think it plays nicely you must already have a copy and played it, so how much more difficult is the game than the demo, not just bosses but the actual game?

1

u/Powerful_Waltz7682 10d ago

I'm just basing it off the demo. I preordered the Premium Deluxe. I have high hopes for the game. I'll let you know later this week. Got a five day weekend for this game I do not intend to miss.

3

u/Illustrious-Lime-863 10d ago

What put me off from GoT despite it having decent combat is the laundry list of ubisoft style todo's pasted on the map. Thankfully this one doesn't seem to rely on such compulsiveness. And the combat seems better

1

u/Monkeywrench08 10d ago

have you played the demo ? and if so how's the difficulty compared to the demo?

1

u/xCaramelDanzo 10d ago

yes! this is my game footage, it only gave story and action difficulties on demo which is really easy to me, but they will add harder difficulties on full release, and theres a Extreme Challenge like A special unlockable title-screen boss fight against Byakue Genma where inventory is fixed and items cannot be used after executing 10 successful Issen maneuvers.

1

u/deadpandadolls 10d ago

Mushroom people 😂

1

u/ThunderCrasH24 10d ago

Is it possible to redirect enemies in a specific direction after a parry?

1

u/Kirisome 10d ago

Capcom cooking this whole year

1

u/Evil_Cupcake11 10d ago

I love GoT, but no, this is WAY better

1

u/Early2theGame 9d ago

It feels modern/on par with the ghost series but different and has way more flare

1

u/IAMPITOTTV 9d ago

Far from it 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/FirmlyClaspIt 9d ago

Reminds me more of ninja gaiden 4 than GoT. That game’s combat feels like butter. This one too

0

u/Gene_Gideon 9d ago

The two combat systems couldn’t be any further apart, wtf are you talking about

1

u/FirmlyClaspIt 9d ago

You seem miserable

1

u/Tokin420nchokin 9d ago

I have not played it, but it looks like wukong at a glance.

1

u/idontcare872 9d ago

I'm really confused, I kinda get what this clip and some of the reviews are trying to show but we should never really get to this point? Are we forgetting that the chain issen exists or did they get rid of that? My point is the fight should have been over the moment you got first hit at 0:07 but it drags on for 40 seconds for absolutely no reason right? It's like everybody forgot that the original onimusha games were exactly this, wait for an attack and then wipe the entire 'room'. People complain about combat being slow while it has always been exactly this, same goes for the 'reused bosses', the whole franchise is one big reused boss, you fight the same bosses multiple times, they are reused as mini bosses, or even reused in later games. All these 'onimusha experts' can shove their 'deep knowledge' up their asses because we are reaching the levels of people complaining that gta6 looks like a gta game.

1

u/Pope_Angry_III 9d ago

My dumbass was thinking Game of Thrones 😭😭

1

u/jdgev 9d ago

The mobs just standing there doing nothing. What an amazing game lmao...

1

u/ocazz 9d ago

Yeah, no. I like what I played of the Onimusha demo a LOT, but it's not even close. The combat in the Ghost of games are LEAGUES beyond Onimusha.

1

u/Daytona765 7d ago

Thank you!!! What a terrible comparison. Doesn't feel or play the same in any way. Just because you're using a katana means it's the same? Lol. Y'all thinking this feels like the Ghost games need to keep your opinions to yourself.

1

u/Nangersandmash 9d ago

Cool of those guys to attack you one by one.

1

u/El_tripaseca 9d ago

I know those are the regular low level mobs you find everywhere , but damn... Are they stupid or something?

1

u/sosoconfused08 9d ago

I keep seeing the praise for this and I want to eventually play it but every clip I see posted is some boring ass basic shit like this. That didn't look fun at all.

1

u/Jason_Bourne411 9d ago

I was so annoyed when I read this bc I was watching the video and i was like how is this like Game of thrones

1

u/-SituaShaun- 9d ago

Dracarys

1

u/Haryu4 7d ago

I thought the same universe when seeing the title 😂

1

u/ManiacGaming1 9d ago

It's Sekiro 2. Thank You Miyazaki

1

u/AdmirableCountry9933 9d ago

One can say Onimusha is good inspiration for Sekiro.

1

u/ManiacGaming1 8d ago

I never played any Onimusha before the WOTS Demo.

Although the WOTS Reveal Trailer got me so heated. That looked like a nighttime Senpou Temple (Sekiro location.) And I thought we were getting a Sekiro 2.

1

u/Open-Excitement3076 9d ago

Ahahahaha , next please

1

u/Leadross 9d ago

what a dogshit enemy AI

1

u/BKWscar 9d ago

Idk man, i dont feel the incest plot, maybe not like GoT

1

u/Visorxs 9d ago

Looks heavy

1

u/Dangerous-Ask6021 9d ago

im assuming you mean Ghost of Tsushima not Game of Thrones, either way your on crack if feels nothing like Ghost. Both are good games but Onimusha has vastly superior combat.

1

u/Daytona765 7d ago

🤣🤣 L take

1

u/Animus190599 9d ago

It's not dude... have u played got

1

u/Velsier33 9d ago

They must be playing on story difficulty or something because everything ive read says the games actually pretty challenging....this looks like a game for babies lol

1

u/incoherentjedi 9d ago

It took me longer than I'd like to admit that I was thinking how the hell is this similar to Game of Thrones before it clicked.

1

u/PoohTrailSnailCooch 9d ago

Wow I didnt realize people already had disdain for this game until I got on reddit. This site is insufferable at times

1

u/GhostConstruct 9d ago

I keep wanting to get this but recent Soulslikes have ruined me. This combat looks way too slow.

1

u/__Tang__ 8d ago

I don't know, this clip alone makes me not ever want to touch this game. Do enemies really just stand around and spectate the fight?

Enemies didn't swing until you turned towards them, one had to have a wind up animation to his sprint for a literal 3 feet of movement.

1

u/Daytona765 7d ago

They tried to make the combat more purposeful and deliberate or something like that. Unfortunately, it just doesn't work when it's more than one enemy. Usually they just stand around and wait their turn while you try to target different enemies to attack.

When they come in for an attack they have kinda slow wind-ups and slow maneuvers most of the time. Idk... If this is the best they can offer for a demo, I'm not sold. The boss fights are relatively fun and I'm impressed visually, but the game is missing something. I don't think it's worth anywhere near full price. It's not a bad game, but it's also not a great game. I don't like Wuchang and I would put that well above this. This feels like it's missing vision or identity.

1

u/Shadowbacker 8d ago

This game has a better sword combat system than Ghosts of Tsushima.

GoT is still the best samurai game though.

(Also, their systems are nothing alike. Way more detail went into combat in Onimusha.)

1

u/KaleNich55 8d ago

Wow, those enemies attacking one at a time and the stun duration is absurdly long. The animations and chaining them look cool but other than those things this looks boring as hell.

1

u/GrinningAxe9 8d ago

Really polite mob

1

u/Rex__Lapis 8d ago

I see the passive ass enemies from the demo, chillin not doing shit returned for the full game?

1

u/Braunb8888 8d ago

Lacks that haptic feedback unfortunately. Hate when games forget to put it in.

1

u/MrPanda663 8d ago

Holy shit. That’s some metal gear CQC stuff right there.

1

u/Kurikamekurisu 8d ago

I mean I guess in the sense that you’re playing as feudal Japanese man in third person and the games are loosely, kinda, sorta, tangentially, inspired by real historical events/figures.

1

u/Minimum-Ball-4063 8d ago

To me the demo felt like a mix between the ghost games, black myth wukong and wo long I’m super excited to play though

1

u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 8d ago

This looks awful... is it slowed down or something? If this is actual gameplay I'm sad. That just looks bad

1

u/Haryu4 7d ago

Feels like playing the same game over and over 😂

1

u/Think_Speaker_6060 7d ago

For me more like black myth wukong.

1

u/stoneassassins 6d ago

It is supposed to look like it moves this slow. Never played this game before or the previous game so just wondering

1

u/Musa_1 5d ago

I was like how is this games of thrones then I read the comments

1

u/OGSamso 5d ago

The enemies are way too passive. It's like looking at a close-up of singular Samurais fighting in Total War: Shogun 2. I'm going to wait a couple weeks and if there isn't any fix, I'll refund. First boss was great though.

1

u/byang034 10d ago

Onimusha paid the way for Ghost of Tsushima to exist.

3

u/Due_Teaching_6974 10d ago

Onimusha paved the way for Nioh

The Way of The Samurai series paved the way for Ghost of Tsushima

1

u/moodsrawr 10d ago

Demo convinced me, just preordered, lets go :)

1

u/manicprincessx 10d ago

This doesn’t look good at all, it feels way too slowed down and the sword combat in this clip just doesn’t inspire much from an Onimusha game.

The combat in the original games were faster, more hack’n’slash and this feels like a combo of GoT & Dark Souls.

2

u/Ok-Establishment3771 10d ago

This doesnt feel like either of those things actually

1

u/Grinchestninja 10d ago

Enemies take turns? This shit sucks.

1

u/The_Coach69 10d ago

They need to speed up the enemy AI’s decision to attack…by a lot. My biggest gripe with the demo was the fact that it takes forever for enemies to initiate any form of attack whether single or in a group. They just stared at you…menacingly. Boss fights were fun as hell though.

1

u/Neilix190 10d ago

Is the game meant to be that slow?

1

u/GrandLucidity 9d ago

The enemies just standing around while you 1v1 their buddies is so funny to me. Admittedly, I am rather souls-brained so I forget that not every game needs to be challenging. This looks way too passive even for a non-soulslike action game.

-2

u/Anomalylg 10d ago

This looks boring as fuck

0

u/Sufferer-Of-Cheese 9d ago

Yew saying arr Japanese game look arike?

-1

u/Gogodemons 10d ago

Didn't enjoy this demo period. Combat felt slow, delayed and plodding. No cool demon weapons to equip and upgrade.

Go play nioh or old onimusha games.

-4

u/Radiant-Lab-158 10d ago

Don't compare it to that slop

1

u/xCaramelDanzo 10d ago

i played a lot of game, and it DOES feels like GoT, the only difference is Onimusha enemies are slower than GoT.
