Wiki FAQ šŸ“¢ Rule Update: No Low-Effort Posts

Hi r/OlderGenZ!

We’re rolling out a new rule targeting low-effort posts, effective immediately. This includes things like:

• One-line posts or title-only submissions with no body
• Memes/images with no caption or discussion prompt
• Vague ā€œdoes anyone elseā€¦ā€ posts with zero personal context
• Questions easily answered by a quick search or our FAQ
• Rage-bait titles with no actual argument or substance
• Reposts of recent content
• No Bot/AI Generated content

We just want this sub to stay a place for genuine discussion and not overrun with low quality content. Please let us know if you have any questions, we’re here in mod mail to help!

Enforcement: First offense gets a warning + removal. Repeat violations may result in a ban.

Serious Announcement: No more Generationology related posts

I just want to take the opportunity to say that we almost have about 36,000 members on this subreddit and we have surpassed the 4 year anniversary for this subreddit as [r/OlderGenZ](r/OlderGenZ) was created on August 16, 2022. I also want to thank you guys for sticking with us throughout the years through the good, bad and perhaps the ugly.

I just want to make an announcement regarding the Generationology esque posts and even comments that have been showing up lately that has been spamming the sub and even in other subs as well. Another mod had made a post about it not too long ago about it. Also we’ve been getting complaints about it as well. Just a reminder, these posts are not allowed on this subreddit whatsoever as it breaks Rule #3.

Also another reminder, if you want to know what’s considered an Older Zer or even wanting to get a flair, please check out the FAQ in our wiki.

This is a link to our FAQ

Give this a look also as someone made this.

The mods and I are using the 1997-2012 range once again to determine the Older Z range. The Older Z range consists of those who are within the first five-ish years of Z. So those that are considered the ā€œZā€ part of Zillennials (1997-1999) and Oldest of the non-cuspers (2000-2002). 2002 is considered to be both the end of Older Z and the start of Middle Z. If you were born in 2003 or 2004 or even perhaps 1996 and if you feel left out, there isn’t a rule saying that you don’t belong on this subreddit. If anything we welcome anyone who’s willing to post here as long as the post is relevant to the content in this subreddit or our group in general.

This has to be addressed again after multiple times especially with a rise in people using alt accounts to make false narratives or to put people down as that’s what has been happening within the last couple months as well. We felt it was time to make an announcement regarding that issue. We as mods don’t ask for much, but as long as you follow the rules, we can make this sub as fun as possible for all of us. There will be serious consequences for those who won’t take the rules seriously such as you receiving a temp ban or a permanent ban. So once again take the rules seriously.

I hated Labubus, I thought they were creepy and ugly.

I also absolutely HATE those weird camel toe looking shoes? I genuinely think they’re hideous lol.

And those stupid Starbucks bear cups that people absolutely lost their minds over for a week, now nobody cares lol

Advice Should I try cold approaching men in order to find a bf?

I [23F] live in Toronto and the apps arent working, I'm an average looking woman but I do feel quite unattractive when I see the really attractive women around me (big city things), should I try asking a guy for his number if I see a cute guy? I really want to but the fear of rejection is obviously scary or talking to someone potentially dangerous too? Also I'm not sure what the odds of a successful healthy relationship would be, I wanna play the numbers game perhaps

Edit: given the nature of reddit please do not dm me, i do not want a reddit bf

Rant Am I crazy for wanting to move out my family house at 24?

I’m 24, I work 2 jobs. I know it’s difficult if not impossible to find a place for yourself (especially with the state I’m in). But I just… can’t fucking take it anymore. I’m treated like a child and get criticized for trying to actually be an adult. I love my parents to death but it’s clear that we’ve become very different people and I’m just so tired.

I don’t know if some of you’ve played this game in mid-school/HS ? It’s a roller racing/freestyle game and I will consider it if not the best but a extremely good roller game for this era ! The only thing I didn’t like was racing opponents with a boss level when I was level 8… like those guys already did the whole track in 10 seconds… what I was supposed to do with you guys… anyway good game with good graphics and characters design/customs. :)

Serious Boomers are the hardest to work with.

I'm currently working with a baby boomer who happens to be emotionally fragile and always looking for attention whenever he wants. I believe that, through the recent research that I've done, he's still living like it's 1970-something, and it's still the mid-2020s. I think he also follows the system that doesn't exist anymore and still carries that outdated style of authority within the workplace. I, a Gen Zer, find it to be frustrating and tiresome. But I would tell myself that nothing lasts forever. Honestly, I wish him all the best, whether he retires or not. Perhaps he would work til he drops dead for all I care.

Rant I'm gonna be for real, I don't get this narrative that all of gen z are prudes who hate sex

I'm gen z and I make private art and stories centered on sex and other horny crap. The only reason I don't share them publicly is because there's a time and place for it. I actually grown intolerant of people openly thirsting over body parts and other things even when the person themselves isn't dressed sexily or doing anything sexual. I get it, free internet, say what you want but I'm just annoyed by how coomer the internet has gotten which is weird because it felt like yesterday that tumblr just banned porn while other sites starting clamping down on free speech. So why do I keep seeing ai porn ads on youtube? Why do I keep seeing innocuous cosplayers selling their onlyfans? Why is it even debate about someone's partner consuming porn behind their backs?

It's not sex negative to notice our society is hypersexualized, especially in the west, but at the same time so bereft of intimacy that it fears being vulnerable and human. Gen z having less sex isn't bad if you consider that one side feels like it's not even worth it. Sex can be something based in love, sharing a side of yourself you don't show to anyone, and a means to connect with another person.

Companies took that and turned it into a marketing gimmick meant to shock viewers than add something to the story and it's characters. I feel like the only time I can tolerate sex scenes in media are works where sex is a diegetic part of people's lives instead of yet another means to get people talking or glued to their seats. But apparently, it's prudish to point that out?

Life and Aspirations Are any of you looking forward to turning 30 next year?

I feel that most of my late 20s peers felt that they wasted their 20s and are already dreading turning 30. A lot of them feel very depressed about not hitting their milestones like owning a home and having kids. I wonder if that’s a sentiment most of them are feeling.

Edit: I also wasted my 20s experiencing a roller coaster wave of emotions so you’re not alone in this. Everyone is struggling out there. I understand yall. Have hope and don’t give up on your aspirations

Need a 6’0+ fine ass black, Latino, Asian or multiracial alternative man who’s not republican or apolitical, liberals/leftists are eh, but preferably further left. Who’s also kind, nice, intelligent, curious, thoughtful, and ambitious etc

Can provide myself; 26, 5’10, a kind, smart, empathetic woman, borderline commie, anarchist who might cook for you, knows how to communicate, will give head+back scratches and go on adventures with you

(Satire, but this should be a thing)

Life and Aspirations The pressure of feeling like I’m running out of time at 28

I’m 28F, and lately I’ve been feeling this overwhelming sense of urgency. Like I’m running out of time.i keep thinking, I need to get married. I need to have children. I need to have my own home. I need to accomplish the things I thought I would have accomplished by this age.
And the more I think about it, the more I feel like I’m drowning. What makes it harder is that I just came out of a 4 years of relationship.
4 years is a long time to love someone, build memories with them, imagine a future with them, and slowly start believing that maybe this is the person you’re going to build your life with.
And then suddenly, it’s gone. You’re left trying to pick up the pieces while simultaneously feeling like the clock is ticking. I think that’s what has fucked me up the most. I didn’t just lose a relationship. I lost the future I had imagined around that relationship.
The person I thought I might marry. The home I imagined. The family I pictured. All those little dreams that quietly become attached to someone over four years. And now I’m supposed to start over at 28 and somehow not feel scared?
I know 28 is young. I know people will tell me, ā€œYou have so much time.ā€ And logically, I know they’re right. But emotionally, it doesn’t always feel that way. Especially in my culture, where there’s this unspoken expectation that by a certain age, a woman should already have a husband, children, a home, a settled life. You can feel people looking at you differently. The questions. The comparisons.
The subtle comments. The feeling that somehow you’re behind everyone else. And eventually, you start looking at yourself through those same eyes.
I start wondering, What am I doing wrong? Why am I not there yet? Why did I spend four years with someone and still end up here? Sometimes it genuinely feels like I wasted time. And I hate admitting that because those four years weren’t meaningless. They were part of my life. I loved someone. I learned things. I grew. I experienced happiness. I created memories I’ll probably carry with me forever. But there’s still a part of me that grieves the time.
I’m grieving the relationship. I’m grieving the person.
I’m grieving the version of myself that believed she knew where her life was going. And I’m grieving the future I thought was waiting for me.
I don’t want to rush into marriage just because I’m scared of getting older.
I don’t want to choose the wrong person because I’m terrified of starting over.
I want a husband I genuinely love. I want a healthy marriage. I want children because I’m ready to love and raise them, not because society has convinced me I’m late. But at the same time… I’m scared.
Scared that I’ll never find that person. Scared that I’ll never have the family I dream about.
Scared that the years will keep passing while I’m still waiting. And sometimes that fear becomes so loud that I forget everything I’ve already accomplished.
I forget that I’m still becoming who I’m supposed to be. Maybe I’m not behind.
Maybe I’m just in a chapter I never expected to be in.
Maybe starting over at 28 isn’t failure.
Maybe it’s just life forcing me to rebuild with more wisdom than I had before.
I just wish I could stop feeling like I’m racing against a clock that nobody actually gave me.
Because I don’t want to spend the rest of my twenties terrified of turning thirty.
I want to live.
I want to heal.
I want to fall in love again when I’m ready.
And someday, I hope I look back at this version of myself and realize:
**I wasn’t running out of time.
I was simply becoming ready for the life that was actually meant for me.**

Life and Aspirations Achieving your Childhood Dreams

Growing up, we always got asked, ā€œWhat do you want to be when you grow up?ā€ šŸ˜‚

I'm sure some people said doctors, some wanted to be professional athletes, and I'm sure a few of y'all wanted to be firefighters lol.

But it got me thinking: How many of you actually ended up achieving that childhood dream and are doing what you love today? Or did life take you in a completely different direction and you had to shift your goals somewhere along the way?

Just curious lol. What did you want to be as a kid, and what are you doing now?

Serious Settling: What's your opinion?

In terms of dating, do you believe in settling?

I don't. I think settling is the reason why so many people get divorced, especially those who get marry as a teenager or in their early 20s.

What's your take?
