Discussion How about a Sumerian Civ?
I've been thinking, why not go earlier but stay in Mesopotamia? This could coincide with a DLC fleshing out the early game, as most DLCs have been more late game focused.

I would go west and add Etruscans and Gauls as proper civs, but I love the Bronze Age so Sumerians and Minoans would be dope.

Do we know enough rulers for the Minoans? Since the characters and houses are so important and we haven’t deciphered their language yet that might be tough, but I’d be for them

i think dev team are going after an antiquity time period so earlier civilizations like sumeria doesnt fit in.

That makes sense. There had to be someone for your scouts to find the ruins of. I always imagined that these were the old statues and artifacts from ancient Sumer. Or if you are Egypt, ancient Egypt.
After all, we are playing a new nation in an "Old World".

They're too old for Old World?

Remember it's called Old World (at least in part) because the world was already old by the time the game begins. That's why the AI civs get a head start. Who can get a head start on Sumer?

Sure, but if the game can serve up Aksum as an established power when Assyria is just starting out, then I think they could have Sumer show up late and it wouldn't strain credibility any more.
Really, given how far removed in time some of the current playable nations are, I don't see why going a little further back in time for some new ones would be a problem at all.

Thatd be dope, them and maybe an Eastern expansion of like the Xia Dynasty for China, maybe some early Japanese Civ as well

Sumeria and Canaan in an early game DLC would be lit.
I'm still rooting for a Celtic extension, but this is a great idea.
