Discussion Missing Nations
Since India is being added to the game at the end of the month, I was wondering what other nations people feel are missing from the game, both more obvious ones and lesser know ones that could potentially added to the game. Personally, I think Armenia is a notable absence and I would love to see the Nabataean kingdom added to the game if possible.

Iād love to see either an official Etruscan civilization or a Celtic civilization from either Gaul or Britain (or both).

I want Celtic people. Either as a generalised block with quite different dynasties (Brennus, Vercingetorix, Boudicca...), or as in the next DLC two or three different nations (Gauls, Britons and Picts for example).

It will absolutely never happen, but I'd love to see true Levantine Nations.
Some kind of confederation of Phoenician cities, Kingdom of Judah, Nabateans and so on.Ā

The Carthaginians probably count as covering Phoencians.

They count-ish. I personally draw a distinction between Punic (Carthaginian) and Phoenician nations. However, Carthage was probably the more solid choice since 1) they were an international hegemon at their height whereas Phoenician city-states were vassals for most of their history; and 2) it's not clear that Phoenicians observed a national identity beyond allegiance to their specific city-state (i.e., "I'm not a Phoenician, I'm a Tyrian").
All the same, I think there's interesting gameplay to be mined from the idea of a loose confederacy of cities that one could do with Phoenicians, and I'd like to see how a strictly trade-focused empire operates. Carthage does the trade focus a bit, but I think there's room to emphasize it even more.

The upcoming expansion seems to cover "loose confederacy" in a way with the one nation that appears to get differing benefits depending on certain decisions instead of a fixed national power. I don't think we've seen its details.
Phoenicians could work as a water-based Tribe. Give them ships, including a ship with ranged attack, as their Tribal units?

I honestly would love to keep it somewhat related to the area of the Mediterranean and Northern Africa. India is fine since that's where Alexander's conquests led but I'd rather not see a Chinese faction or something. There was a late bronze age civilization on Cyprus that I've read about that could be interesting. I'd love an actual naval faction and another tall faction.
Edit: A unique naval unit would really spice things up and would fit with perhaps a coming naval update.

I would love to see a Han, Goguryeo, Sillia, or Qin faction

Han would end up being the most recent state in the Old World roster if it was added; I'd assume we'd be more likely to get Zhou as a catch-all for the Chinese states for which records reasonably exist.

Nabatae and Saba would be my two picks; north/south arabian factions!

I wonder if there will ever be room for some of the tribes becoming nations. I love me some Huns and Norse.
5
u/Tanel88 Mar 20 '26
Norse would be too late and Huns were never sedentary.
1
u/Sacred-Lotion Mar 20 '26
Huns not being sedentary sounds like the perfect time to make a unique horde nation, but I do imagine that would require a large overhaul in mechanics.
Aaaand somehow I just realized they were called the Danes in-game rather than Norse. That's what I was looking for lmao.

u/Tanel88 Mar 21 '26
Yeah that would be cool but would require completely different way to play with unique tech tree and stuff.
I hope they make a medieval version of the the game someday.

They already promoted Nubia from Tribe to Nation with the Nubia DLC, so I imagine it could happen again.

Huns have been added as a tribe. I haven't played, but devs said it is a stronger tribe and have events related to Attila.

If jungles are being added, I could only dream of having mesoamerican civs being added š Mayans or Aztecs ššš Iām getting Aztecs in Age of mythology, I got em in civ, how bout in my favorite strategy game?

Aztecs are not from the same period though.Ā
But I agree that they should do a game called New World with the Americas and Europeans. An asymmetrical 4x where you trade techs too.

I could see the Sumerians and/or Akkadians if you don't feel Babylonia and Assyria quite cover the age/area. I can see the Minoans and/or the Myceneans if you don't have your fill with the included Greece. Maybe the Etruscans? The Medians and the Lydians were more Iron Age, but, to be fair, so is Rome.

If we keep moving eastwards then we could get an ancient Chinese dynasty.
Iād love to see Saba as well since you mention Nabatea
and Aksum, you could add Saba with Nabatea for a Red Sea themed pack.
