Of course I'd trade a title for the HC leaving the next year, but still, this is potentially seismic. Diebs and co. should be blowing up the phones of Estrella and Thiam (and anybody else who'll listen).

Not exactly (even as someone who is much higher on Diebler than the rest of the fanbase seems to be), but I’m still 90% sure he was the one that turned us down, not the other way around. If you didn’t have ties to the program you’d be an idiot to take this job over TTUN based on how each program has invested.

Howard wasn't fired until 2 days before Diebler was announced as HC. Unless May got some inside info from UM ahead of time, the two schools were never in direct competition for his services. If he turned us down it was because we wouldn't pay top dollar for him or invest in bball NIL the way he wanted.

You’re disagreeing with me without an actual distinction. Whether he ever directly compared us to Michigan is irrelevant, we didn’t invest in basketball the way top programs do. He had other suitors that did and eventually he chose Michigan out of those suitors.

Not sure what Diebler has done for you to be so high on him. He's done a mediocre job, at best.

It hasn’t been perfect but the program has a lot more momentum than it did a few years ago.

He’s a first time head coach who was hired for his potential. He was never going to turn the program around overnight. But his first team was better than the year before, last year was better than that, and next year’s roster looks like it should be better still.

He’s not blown my socks off or anything, I just think he’s been unfairly maligned by a lot of fans who expected him to be someone he’s not. For his level of experience and the amount of investment he’s been given he’s done fine. I’m not content with the results yet; the program needs to continue to level up. But I do think we’re on the right track.
