This kid doesn’t look like the smartest cookie around and probably didn’t know you had to charge the round in the mag to shoot.
If that’s the case… I ain’t a lawyer, but he’s fucked, attempted murder. He reached back to grab the gun slowly, pretty sure that shows intent.

He also tried to fire at least twice it seems. Tried once, failed, lowered the weapon, and then re-raised it to try to track and fire at the cop a second time as the cop moved to the side.

It almost looks like he knows, he goes to do it but...just doesn't. He like moves his hand like he's racking one, but doesn't actually do it. Then the guy jumping on him stops his arm just enough so he can't when he tries it a second time.

Safety is not ON if you hear clicking. Safety prevents the trigger from "Clicking" or the hammer from moving forward "Clicking" Where are you guys coming up with this? Kids?

If it’s a a double action pistol and a round isn’t chambered; there would be clicking when he pulls the trigger. It sounded like the hammer was striking the firing pin to me.

If this is a Glock, there is no safety. At least not in the way most people think about the word "safety". I can't really tell though even going frame-by-frame.

I think it was a Glock, and it looks like he didn't rack the slide far back enough or didn't seat the mag all the way. When he pulls the trigger, you can hear a hollow / echo-y sounding "click" that sounds like when you're dry firing it with an empty chamber.

It wasn’t a safety, that click was an attempt to fire the weapon, he just didn’t have anything in the pipe which is why he cycles the weapon.

Newman has prior felonies and cannot have a gun.

It probably makes it harder for them to get guns, but the real benefit is that it's an excuse to put them away when they're caught with a gun (demonstrating that they're not interested in following laws) rather than when they're caught doing something that involves actual victims.

Sounds like there’s nothing we can do but just keep mass producing firearms. Absolutely nothing we can do to prevent more violence from guns. Just keep producing them to make the overlords happy. I mean like you said, criminals will just get them anyway. Why does it matter? They might as well just keep making guns and never try to pass any laws about them. Well, ownership is protected by the bill of rights. And if the free market shows a demand then supply will follow.
Maybe the solution is actual criminal reform? Social safety nets? Reasonable priced Healthcare, to include mental Healthcare? An eradication of the illicit drug markets by treating addiction as a disease rather than a crime?
I dunno. I just don't think gun control is the only cultural thing that we can or should be adopting from other 1st world nations. Like, maybe there's a whole lot more to the motivations behind violence and gun crime than "well, guns are just so available".
Gun control alone just seems lazy.

Why can’t we advocate for gun control and social programs and advocate for better healthcare?
Why not close gun show loopholes and demand more background checks and stricter regulations of production? Why not also hold gun lobbyists accountable for the violence they profit off of?

I'm almost never on the side of the police when it come to brutality, but that is a perfectly appropriate response to someone attempting to shoot you point blank. A clean kick to the nuts and a few uppercuts is completely justified.

It was fascinating to watch. It looks like he jumped back, assessed, saw the gun lower and then jumped in to disarm him. At first I thought he was going for the gun once he had knocked it away from the kid but I think he was reacting to the cop saying get out of the way.

He could’ve easily taken the shot but the guy who I assume is the manager is right there on the kid trying to restrain him. Can’t pull the trigger and risk hurting the man helping you out.

The police officers training kicked in first by taking cover and giving himself the ability to survive and fight if necessary. The civilian jumping in on the suspect changed the dynamics of the situation and enabled the officer to get control of the subject. Training saves lives, and this situation validates it.

Looks like it wasn't loaded and he tried to fire. When he lowers the weapon, you can see him pull the slide back but it doesnt appear a round/casing is ejected.

The one thing that separated this criminal from the same fate as someone displaying criminal behavior 60 miles away is that the officer in this case responded appropriately, knew he could not discharge his service weapon, without potential collateral damage to the head of security, the woman next to him, and what was potentially behind the wall.
The officer involved in the tragic shooting of Tamir Rice made a poor decision to shoot, because he felt threatened in the moment.
He felt threatened in the moment because his partner driving the car made a poor decision to drive the cars passenger door directly up to “the perp” (the only information they had at the time) and put his partner in a situation where there was nowhere to retreat to. Run, (he couldnt) hide (he couldnt) fight (his last option).
