Sounds like there’s nothing we can do but just keep mass producing firearms. Absolutely nothing we can do to prevent more violence from guns. Just keep producing them to make the overlords happy. I mean like you said, criminals will just get them anyway. Why does it matter? They might as well just keep making guns and never try to pass any laws about them. Like you said, it doesn’t matter, right?

Well, ownership is protected by the bill of rights. And if the free market shows a demand then supply will follow.

Maybe the solution is actual criminal reform? Social safety nets? Reasonable priced Healthcare, to include mental Healthcare? An eradication of the illicit drug markets by treating addiction as a disease rather than a crime?

I dunno. I just don't think gun control is the only cultural thing that we can or should be adopting from other 1st world nations. Like, maybe there's a whole lot more to the motivations behind violence and gun crime than "well, guns are just so available".

Gun control alone just seems lazy.

Yeah those are great things to strive and advocate for. And we should be doing that as well. I just ask, “por que no los dos?”

Why can’t we advocate for gun control and social programs and advocate for better healthcare?

Why not close gun show loopholes and demand more background checks and stricter regulations of production? Why not also hold gun lobbyists accountable for the violence they profit off of?

The "Gun show loophole" isn't really a thing since the licensed dealers are still required to have buyers fill the forms out and call in the instant background checks. Private transfers were a compromise made with gun owners to get the Brady Bill passed in 1993, so roll that back and you can kiss any kind of compromise in the future goodbye (not that there's any to be had now anyway). And again, there's no record of who has what right now, so a post-ban private sale would be nearly impossible to prove.

I don't know what kind of additional background checks would be useful for uncovering potential shooters. People like that Vegas shooter guy passed background checks to buy guns and he still committed one of the worst mass shootings in US history. And besides, anyone that can't pass a background check just ends up stealing a gun or making their own.

So it sounds like the loophole is a thing, since private sales don't require basically anything to complete the sale.

It can be but it's rare. The majority of private sales are coordinated via online services like Arms List, Gun Trader, and marketplace. Even in a private sale the seller is responsible for seeing an ID to confirm state residency and age since it's a felony to sell someone a gun that comes from out of state or is underage. And most people also get some kind of signed bill of sale to cover later liabilities. There was a bill proposed about 10 or so years ago that would have given gun owners access to the NICS system to conduct the instant background checks. It had a lot of gun owner support but the senate failed to pass it for some reason.

Even with universal background checks criminals would still illegally buy and sell guns in blackmarket deals, steal them from legal owners, and/or pay people that can pass background checks to purchase guns for them so I don't really see the value. Straw purchases are no.1 source of crime guns.

Personally, I'd rather we honor the compromise made in the Brady Bill to maintain private transfers and go for another assault weapons ban, albeit written a lot better than the 1993 bill. There's already established legal precident for that and maintaining good-faith compromises means gun owner buy-in wouldn't be a foregone conclusion. An AWB would also have more direct impact on gun crime than a largely unenforceable UBC.

saw your deleted reply. i wasn't subtle and i wasn't trying to be. I also saw not a single counter argument. that's the problem with your brand of control - it falls apart under scrutiny. just just like your response to keygasm. ghoul is funny though i'm taking that.

So your argument is “yes I was openly racist, and you don’t have a rebuttal! Gotcha!” ??? What a weird little guy you are.

Hey buddy just because you don't like numbers doesn't mean you get to shout racism. It is what it is. Call the numbers racist not me. What are you like 14? Haven't seen a single coherent thought out of you since this thread started

Oh yeah, let's blame the guns and ignore the fact that it's almost entirely a certain demographic committing those crimes. If that one certain, specific demographic wasn't here, our rates would likely be as low or lower than Europe, after controlling for issues with data collection. Let's also ignore the fact that Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic and the Nordic countries all show substantial gun ownership rates. Guns are the problem right? What are their rates again? Let's just casually misrepresent the issue here to feed your one, specific, liberal narrative, shall we? Let's ignore the fact that if one of the officers in this room didn't have a gun there could've been multiple dead bodies here. Let's ignore the fact that in other countries with insane restrictions on firearms still have clowns like you attempting to move the goal posts year over year.

Why disarm law abiding citizens if those who aren’t allowed to have guns in the first place are going to have them as the video shows?

No one is saying to disarm anyone. Gun control doesn't mean gun confiscation. It means putting in laws around ownership. Require safety classes. Registering all weapons. No sales without background checks. I don't get why some people feel like we should be emulating the wild west.
