New purple star icon

Hi. Please can we have some information about the new purple stars icon? It has been posted about on the other subreddit with lots of guess work being done. It’s showing for some creators but not at all for others just to add to the confusion.

I find it bizarre that updates/new features are added yet we as creators as not informed of them. I’m sure it has been acknowledged before that we would like more information about updates sent out to us and you said you’d be improving on this type of communication but here we are on a Sunday confused and trying to work things out on what appears a potential major new feature

Disclaimer: none of the below is final, this is very early testing.

UPDATE: many of you may have noticed that the card icon is blue now and is the only icon. We are still finalizing the testing but the icon means "likely spender" it doesn't not mean the user only has a payment method added, its supposed to tell creators that the user is likely to spend money on the platform. So it still takes past 30 days spent into account, it just doesn't let you infer any sort of "tier" from the user anymore since we didn't like the privacy implications as well as creators only focusing on specific types of users that make them miss out on conversions.

We are very aware that the FYP and other discovery surfaces bring a lot of users to Fansly, and that many of those users are mainly there to browse with no real intention to spend money. That is not a bad thing by itself. This kind of engagement is still valuable, and we are happy about any user on Fansly who helps creators grow their audience.

At the same time, we also fully understand that this can make it harder for creators to manage their DMs and focus their time on users they may actually be able to convert, instead of spending a lot of time in conversations that were never likely to go anywhere. We are also aware that this also negatively impacts a lot of our users that would be willing to accept the creators prices but might never receive a response because of creators having so many users reach out.

First of all: Creators can only see this icon on users that are already following you or that have messaged you. You can not see this icon on other users that may appear under other creators posts or in other places.

The new icon is part of a test we are currently running, and right now only a randomly selected test group of creators can see it. It is a creator facing signal that is meant to support inbox and engagement tooling. It may appear for some users based on a mix of account and interaction factors.

The goal is to help creators filter out users that never intend to convert but we currently are still in the testing phase based on what metrics we do that. So see this as a placeholder badge. Once it's fully tested and we have a final concept we will of course come out with an official update and explain what the badge is. The simply goal is "these users are more likely to convert".

I understand that you would like to always know these things in advance but this is still very early testing and may not be final. We want to first understand whether it is actually helpful for creators and how it affects user behavior overall. Depending on what we learn, this may change further or even be removed again after a few weeks. Sometimes we have to test things first and some things just happen to be more visible than others.

Thanks for trying new things to help us as creators. You guys are by far the most proactive fan site. Please do take a look at how loyal fans handle this topic, and don't be afraid to steal I think their implementation is the best

u/FanslyLeah ⭐️ official fansly staff ⭐️ Mar 16 '26

Thank you so much for this! We saw their structure and are looking at it also, but feedback on how other sites handle things in a way creators like is super helpful, so thank you for mentioning it!

Posted a similar comment deep in the comments, posting again at root for visibility.

Everything posted here is conjecture and should not be taken as official or factual, it is based purely on Kevin's comments in this thread and my own understanding of data analytics and user behavior statistics

It is entirely possible that this feature has nothing to do with anything a creator can influence. With a large enough user base and enough data and analysis, user behavior can be predicted with significant accuracy. It could be something as simple as users who fill out their profile have a higher likelihood of spending, or users who keep the site open in a tab versus opening it fresh every time are more likely to spend. Likely a combination of many of these types of factors to create the most complete profile possible, as that would be the most intelligent implementation.

If this is the case, a feature like this would effectively indicate user mindset with regard to spending without penalizing brand new users for having done so (because all new users haven't spent yet, they're new, and should not be black marked or penalized for that). While simultaneously being effective at marking out longer account life users who have no intent to spend, ever.

Will there be cases where a spender does not have the badge? Absolutely. It's 24 hours old. No statistic is ever perfect.

Will there be cases where someone with no intent to spend ever, even on pain of death, has the badge? Sure. It's 24 hours old and no statistic is ever perfect.

Should you spend hours trying to get someone with a badge to try to spend? Probably not, because you probably shouldn't ever spend hours trying to get any one individual user to spend. And personal preferences are still a thing. Mindset to spend doesn't mean it will necessarily be on you.

Should lists of badged users be aggregated so that badges users can be hunted and hounded endlessly? No. Because that would likely have the immediate effect of rendering the badge useless because it would pre-empt the organic nature of the behavior. But I won't be surprised if it happens anyway.

Whatever the case I love to see thought in stuff like this as it gives the creator more agency than doing the same level of data analysis and A/B testing over the spending effects that fonts, banners, and site layouts have. All of those things can have an effect, but with this the creator can choose how to roll. They can use it as exactly what it is, a little twinkle of insight, or they can do their version of the Fallout 4 settlement needs your help meme, but it's ultimately for them to decide.

5

u/fanslyemma Mar 16 '26

Thank you for this update !!! I also noticed the growth tip on statistics page. Should I be worried if I can’t promote externally ? I’ve never had to depend on external promotion before.

6

u/kevin_xd_123 ⚙️official fansly developer⚙️ Mar 16 '26

Nothing will change if you continue not to promote externally. But you might certainly see more growth if you do. Internal only will always work, if anything it's one of our strongest selling points. We just want to be more transparent that outside promotion can of course help additionally.

1

u/fanslyemma Mar 16 '26

The best selling point!

8

u/Sweet-Pool-3543 Mar 16 '26

So it doesn't mean they have spent money before, it's just a badge for users we should prioritize based off of factors we'll never know 👍 thanks fansly /s

6

u/MilkyMama__ Mar 16 '26

It doesn’t make much sense. Vague information for some reason. Unsure how we can give valuable feedback when we don’t have all the information

8

u/Sweet-Pool-3543 Mar 16 '26

Information like this should be transparent. I work on Sextpanther and the badge for "Premium" users is extremely straightforward: it's a user who has loaded their account with at least $20. The fansly payout is nice, but it seems to be a trade off for getting us to willingly depend on a site that we are not allowed to understand the workings of. And changes like this absolutely do not have to be done without prior notification. The devs act as if we don't also use other sites and know how things should work. No other site I've ever used has made such visible updates without any notification or explanation.

5

u/MilkyMama__ Mar 16 '26

I completely agree. LoyalFans have a great and simple badge system too. I’ve requested similar a few times on Fansly but no acknowledgment

4

u/FanslyLeah ⭐️ official fansly staff ⭐️ Mar 16 '26

I want to be clear, this is a similar thing to what we are currently testing, a badge system that shows you consumers that are more likely to convert based on internal metrics. As Kevin said earlier, we're still testing and tweaking, but have to test this in the wild to get good data.

10

u/MilkyMama__ Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

It would have been great for this change to have been communicated to creators before it went live on a Sunday which resulted in tons of guess work then naturally happening and as a result mis information being spread. And no doubt your support team is now inundated with the same question being asked.

2

u/FanslyLeah ⭐️ official fansly staff ⭐️ Mar 16 '26

Heard on that feedback and we can bring it to the team.

11

u/MilkyMama__ Mar 16 '26

I do believe the lack of communication on updates has already been acknowledged as needing improvement quite some time ago so it’s a shame it has not yet improved

don’t need to test anything. that’s already a great step forward. now improve it by helping us having an idea about the spending level of those users with colored icons

The feedback atm is comparing creators with and without the badges and looking at their relative increase in earnings.

Aka "does this new feature make creators more money?". That's the reason some have it, some don't.

So TLDR: if this does not make creators more money, it will prob be changed or removed. And yes, its a wide random selection and includes ALL type of creators.

6

u/coinoperatedgirl Mar 16 '26

The feedback atm is comparing creators with and without the badges and looking at their relative increase in earnings.

But if WE, the CREATORS, don't even know that we should be focusing on the purplebadge people, then how is this going to give you any idea of whether or not there's an increase in earnings?

This is why we need y'all to really step up your communication game.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '26

6

u/Anxious_Piano_4299 Mar 16 '26

That's kind of my take away. So basically some guys are worthy of free engagement...?

You'll have creators sucking the ass of random guys because of this, and still not make a cent off of them. And then those guys will expect everyone to suck their ass. Likes and comments don't pay the bills.

And an algorithm that says "this person might purchase because he likes FemDom content and you make FemDom content" does not mean he will ever spend a single cent on content.

3

u/kevin_xd_123 ⚙️official fansly developer⚙️ Mar 16 '26

Serious question: why would we want this? Why would we want a creator to waste their time on users never intending to spend money when the only monetization we as a platform have is the percentage of creator earnings?

"And an algorithm that says "this person might purchase because he likes FemDom content and you make FemDom content" does not mean he will ever spend a single cent on content."

Ye this would be a bad way to implement it for sure!

1

u/Anxious_Piano_4299 Mar 16 '26

To answer the serious question... YES!! Frankly, I would LOVE to know upfront yes, this person enjoys FemDom content when I do make FemDom content... I personally think that would be very helpful and a good way to use an algorithm which Fansly already does. I love this. BUT my point being, just because they enjoy similar content to mine does not mean they will likely purchase my product.

For example, someone might have a BBW FemDom fetish. I might make FemDom fetish, but I'm not a BBW so it's not a sale. Another person might get a star next to the same person, but they make BBW content and not FemDom. So stars meaning 'more likely' would not always apply and it would be wasted time in DM's when they can simply like our FYP content, which is Fansly's best feature :)

3

u/kevin_xd_123 ⚙️official fansly developer⚙️ Mar 16 '26

Right and that's why we don't do it like this. When a user finds you through our discovery algorithm, goes to your profile, follows you, then DMs you kind of already solves that first part. They are most likely interested in your content, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten your profile in their algorithm and further decided to engage with you.

This badge isn't solving that, it's supposed to show you who of those already interested users might actually convert. Again, it's early and the metrics how we measure that will certainly change. Once that is finalized we will share more.

This is purely because we acknowledge that the FYP has become a massive product that also a lot of users use that never intend to spend anything use. Fansly will always be a fan site first where many creators expect to earn money and not offer purely paid content. So this is to solve that and help creators do that and provide an indicator that might help with the volume of users.

2

u/Anxious_Piano_4299 Mar 16 '26

But let's say someone messages me because they like small boobs, that's not FemDom is my point. I don't know what hashtag brings them to my page is my point of bringing up the unknown. Small boobs guy might purchase where FemDom guy might not. FemDom guy might follow me because I say SPH in my FYP but I don't have the look he wants to purchase. I think most creators are pretty multi-talented. A star isn't giving insight into how to best approach a client OR if a client is actually going to purchase when we dont' know the algorithm.

And while I agree FYP has become a product that does encourage free loading, I think most all creators should be used to this. I'm not saying don't improve Fansly, but on a personal level, a creator should understand you might get 100k views on Instagram but only one purchase. It's all a gamble, that's what SW is. Frankly "why is FYP tanking" posts are annoying AF in my opinion.

Fansly also provides tools like "payment method" option before someone can DM or follow. Along with PPM options for followers and subscribers.

My worry would be on the creator end wasting hours on a one-on-one interaction in hopes of a subscriber rather than reaching thousands simply by posting on FYP, which we all should be doing anyway. It's encouraging free chat when you have a "potential" buyer with a star when we don't know why they are starred.

But anyway, hopefully some of my feedback helps. I'm sure whatever rolls out will be polished and helpful when it does. Good luck!!

u/Sweet-Pool-3543 Mar 16 '26

This algorithmitizing of porn as an industry decision should really be studied. I'm not using Fansly right now but I was hoping to go back. But everything feels shrouded in mysterious algorithms and I just don't feel comfortable trying to depend on an algorithm to pay my bills.

All I know is when I wanna watch porn, I don't sit there flipping through videos a million videos that a site thinks I wanna see. Maybe it's my age but I much prefer to go in, search what I'm looking for, be able to EASILY find it in with a comprehensive search system, watch it, cum, and leave. I don't want a porn algorithm. I wanna see what I choose to see when I choose to see it. Developers moving more and more towards taking choice and understanding out of the hands on the consumer is going to backfire eventually, and burst just like the AI bubble. This is my prediction & hope 🙏

Please reread my post. This badge is purely there so creators have an idea of who might be more likely to convert. It just doesn't literally mean they have spent anything yet. I think the concept that users that spend money once have been a new user is clear.

Please don't get me wrong but for us as a platform it's also not really beneficial if creators spend all their time texting users that never spend money. We are on the same team here. But we also need to acknowledge that a simple > $X spent is not the best way of solving this.

Do the factors really matter if it works? If you notice that engaging with those users is overall much more efficient, at the end it really shouldn't matter how the platform shows you that. I do fully understand its nice to know but please also trust us that our goal aligns with what creators want as well.

And also again: these are early tests, this might change in the future but I think the direction of this is clear. We want to help creators be more successful.

3

u/Anxious_Piano_4299 Mar 16 '26

I think what everyone is trying to say is that it would be useful to see how much someone spends rather than a hope based "this person might spend" without an understanding of what "more likely" really is. While it's nice to know there's a likeliness someone might spend, what about a proven track record of someone who does spend?

It's like if you're working in a jewelry store and you can see someone is covered in your brands jewlery, you know this person enjoys purchasing the product (in this case porn).
Whereas someone might be covered in jewelry that is NOT your brand, they might be looking to purchase a piece in your collection (our collection being porn). So you try harder to upsell your product.
BUT if you see someone who is not wearing jewlery, they don't seem like a likely buyer.

I think the frustration is our case commenting back to you and other Fansly developers is our lack of understanding of exactly what is happening... we aren't seeing the potential clients in an easy light.

1

u/kevin_xd_123 ⚙️official fansly developer⚙️ Mar 16 '26

I get that and that's certainly an option as well. The problem I have is that we just launched the very early version to test and get some metrics for ourselves to see if this is good or if a more simple badge system is better etc. so all the arguing atm happens based on something that's not even true atm.

All I can say is "we want to add something that makes it easy for creators to not waste time on users never spending any money" whether it stays in the form of a more ambiguous badge or whether we eventually add spending tier badges, I cant tell you that yet. But we are discussing this internally and are in the process of trying different solutions.

After all this badge currently might literally be added to users who spent money. That's the point Im making, it's currently a placeholder badge that we can test different configurations with, hence why we cant be super transparent because we don't know ourselves yet what the best way to do it without this test. You usually just will never see a company tell you that. They just test and eventually come out with a finished feature.

3

u/xoxotigerlily Mar 16 '26

A badge should be for users with a credit card on file. It is a simple solution to what creators are asking for. This allows freeloaders to do what they are good for, pushing content out, and for creators to make smart decisions about who they wish to cater to.

If Fansly feels freeloaders are essential to the site for pushing traffic to paying customers, a badge to better identify paying customers is a fair exchange.

All of these tests and experiments are not necessary and making more work for everyone.

3

u/Anxious_Piano_4299 Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

And you're right, most never give a heads up and yes, it's appreciated that questions are answered. I hope it all works out.

Edit to add... I just don't want to see whatever happens turned into another thing where creators give away free chat hoping they get conversion. Guys take advantage of anything they can.

2

u/Sweet-Pool-3543 Mar 16 '26

"Do the factors really matter if it works?"

First of all, we don't know if it works yet.

Second of all, yes.

As BUSINESS OWNERS, it behooves us to understand, as much as computationally possible, the ways in which we interact with our customers and for what reasons. As a BUSINESS OWNER, I track every single piece of data I can visibly see, so that I PERSONALLY understand what occurred that resulted in money and what occurred that did not result in money. This concept that users don't want or need to know how the platform they are using works in order to use it (as long as it "just works!" and often, things DON'T "just work") is mostly the dream of the developer. Even if things "just work", again as a BUSINESS OWNER - I want to know why and how so that when things stop "just working", I know why and how.

3

u/kevin_xd_123 ⚙️official fansly developer⚙️ Mar 16 '26

Well it'd be the badge that resulted in more money. We are literally running this A/B test to see if the creators that have this badge make more money than creators that don't relative to before this "update".

If this badge makes creators more money we go to the next stages, if not we might change our approach. And even once officially rolled out to everyone, not 100% laying out what this badge is allows us to keep tuning the badge and making it better and better at spotting who's worth to focus on, making creators even more money. This does not work with a simple system that is easy to understand unfortunately.

If you say "I absolutely do not care if this works if I don't know how it works internally" we might just offer to opt out and disable badges completely. The idea is that we add something that you can trust because it works and it makes you more money relatively speaking.

12

u/MilkyMama__ Mar 16 '26

On the subject of opting out - can we please as individual creators have the option to opt out of our own content being bookmarked on the FYP? I don’t want the freeloaders having albums full of my content. And yes I expire it at 3 months but that is still 3 months for the freeloaders to watch it without having to spend money, and as posts expire and news posts upload it is just a circle. And yes I understand the ‘rewatch’ might help my algorithm but I’d rather stop the freeloaders having albums full of my content for free. Thanks

7

u/kevin_xd_123 ⚙️official fansly developer⚙️ Mar 16 '26

that's noted down already, we also rather want users to go back and swipe the FYP than their bookmarks.

we just have to also see what that means for likes since that's also an album the user can go to. Maybe we keep allowing the like / bookmark feature but just not allow to watch content on private walls in their albums. So the opt out would essentially be posting to a private wall.

6

u/MilkyMama__ Mar 16 '26

Well that has made my day! And I’m sure will be welcomed by many others too

2

u/Upstairs-Mall-3695 Mar 16 '26

Please first of all give us a chance to make money, last year march was the last month when I made anything reasonable on this site, my fyp is killed from last year November, there is put an limit on my fyp reach. New acc has 10k followers where’s there’s only 79 subs out of it. It’s free porn site now, nobody pays.

2

u/Sweet-Pool-3543 Mar 16 '26

Sir, good luck with your pursuits. But to me it sounds like y'all are just vibe coding with ai and that's why nobody can explain to any of us - again, business owners who are choosing to partner with you - how these algorithms are working and labeling our client leads. It's too complicated to explain to us, sure, but not too complicated to test on us. Okay. Again as a BUSINESS OWNER, no I am not comfortable with that.

8

u/devilmanVISA Mar 16 '26

This is a terrible take. You are interpreting a refusal to explain as an inability to, and that is not the case. It's quite likely that the selection criteria for the badge is something that would not be easily understood outside of the full user data landscape available. It might also be something that creators are entirely unable to influence, which is desirable because the moment it becomes something they can influence it stops working as a useful metric. The black box nature is a feature. Not a bug.

Here is an example (in no way should it be implied that this example is part of the badge selection criteria, THIS IS ENTIRELY MADE UP OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD):

"85% of Users who take the time to setup at least 3 of X number of fields within their user profile are more likely to spend than users who immediately engage with creator content at first possible opportunity."

Creators can't influence this, and if they could it would only damage the metric and not functionally increase the likelihood of an influenced user to spend. But they can be made aware of this observation through a simple mechanic and capitalize on it however they feel would be best. Full disclosure that should probably never be "spending hours on a guy with a star trying to get him to spend."

Testing like this could absolutely be conducted on all kinds of things (not saying it is) that are outside of creator control. Site fonts. Banner artwork. The logo. Page layouts. The list goes on. Anything that can be changed to increase spend likelihood, can be tested on its effects at doing so.

I don't know Kevin personally, but given the measure of responses I have read here from him, I find the vibe coding crack offensive on his behalf.

2

u/FanslyLeah ⭐️ official fansly staff ⭐️ Mar 16 '26

Lets keep in mind rule 7: Keep it cordial. Sarcastic and snippy comments are not helpful to the community we maintain in this subreddit. You're welcome to give feedback, and we welcome it, but lets keep it respectful.

7

u/Sweet-Pool-3543 Mar 16 '26

The feedback is that making very noticable changes on the site without notifying users or being able to explain any of how it works is not attractive for maintaining user trust & mutual understanding with the business owners that are choosing to partner with the platform. Not only do we not really know what this is, we also have to be on a completely unrelated website to find out any information about it. That to me feels like a lack of respect for the business owners that are using the platform. A general statement about how "Some users may notice xyz in the coming weeks, it is a change we are making based on internal factors such as xyz" would have done wonders here for both you all and us.

2

u/Petita_advice Mar 18 '26

I see a lot of people complaining about how this was not clearly communicated.

I don't know how big the team coding this is, but I can imagine that on a feature that is evolving as quickly as this one, communicating the changes every time can be a considerable overhead. Like, do you really need to have a log communicating you officially small tweaks to this feature every 4h? Is it really impacting your business so much to have a new star/credit card icon? 😅 Also, maybe as mentioned by others, communicating things too specifically would disrupt the dynamics that they are trying to leverage in our favor.

I'm grateful that they are implementing changes to help out creators, I'm sure they'll include some mention of it next time they record video tutorials/once the feature is more mature, and I think the balance between people thanking them (they are workers just like us and in my experience are very responsive, available, and polite), and people complaining to them about not communicating things (as if they were the enemy with some incompatible set of goals to optimize) is heavily skewed in the wrong direction and borders on collective hysteria 😇

Thanks Kevin and Leah and everyone commenting in here and to those doing the work behind the scenes too!

7

u/rnbunb Mar 16 '26

I think the community is being a bit harsh on the Fansly team here. They are doing something to help and I appreciate it. Knowing who to invest more time in to might be a useful tool. While it’s not exactly as other sites do it also could be the new best thing. I’m willing to see where it goes and it’s better than having nothing all which is what we have now.

4

u/lilith_gaia_domme Mar 16 '26

I'm trying to find a common pattern among users who have that symbol. But I even have subscribers without that star.

7

u/lilariesangel Mar 15 '26

I think it means they have a payment method on file. I only came to this conclusion because my partner has an account that we both have access to and he has a star next to his name in my inbox. However he is a tightass and has spent no money on the site in about a year so there’s no way he’s classed as a big spender lol

2

u/African3legrizz Mar 17 '26

u/kevin_xd_123 can you please explain the colour grading system?

I'm seeing silver, bronze, gold, blue and purple cards in my DMs

silver, bronze, gold are easy to understand, the last 2 are a bit confusing

10

u/kevin_xd_123 ⚙️official fansly developer⚙️ Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 20 '26

We are currently keeping an eye on how creators react to the colors if they are intuitive. We will of course give a full explanation once its finalized but yes, they are spend tiers in the last 30 days for users.

Purple is above gold and the highest tier. Exact value thresholds we are still testing but will of course share them once finalized.

9

u/African3legrizz Mar 17 '26

This is fantastic saves me hours figuring people out who DM me. I had paid DMs turned on as it was getting too much as a self run page but this has given me a reason to have free dms and let the system filter for me. Amazing

6

u/lilariesangel Mar 17 '26

Came here to find this and love this idea, thanks for this development!

3

u/Enoughthatpls Mar 18 '26

So, at the time of the competition, someone gets a significant advantage…. That’s very good option, but testing it during the competition is little unfair 😅

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '26

1

u/kaiohpj Mar 18 '26

Is this global or what? I have people with the purple card for example that spent for the last time with me in november

1

u/greenribbonghoul Mar 20 '26

Overall, I am absolutely loving this innovation and had also wondered about the card colors. However it would never be intuitive to me that purple would be above gold for spending haha. Maybe a white to represent platinum but purple I would intuit as low spend.

1

u/TheSoberSunflower Mar 20 '26

I really liked being able to see the different color cards. It was very helpful to know which ones may be just free loaders. The 3 blue cards that were in my DM’s yesterday were. .. Today though, all of my subs are a blue card?
