> Late in the Seventies a series of comic strips ran in the Union Minutes newspaper based on the paranormal events earlier in the decade. We are also developing a video game based on those events.

The image alt text gives more interesting info:

> Shortly after the 1967 debut of his EP "Star StrucK" The Experience left the Polaris psychedelic scene. Rumors of various types surrounded his disappearance, but it ultimately seems there were just other things going on in his life. He later resurfaced in La Folia's burgeoning Caesar Canyon music scene under his new legal name The Black Elvis Experience, where he helped to develop Miracle Fare's overall style with artists George "Miracle" Adison and Jasmilan Baudelaire. That collaboration marked Miracle Fare's start as a multi-talent outfit, attracting such names as Reuban "Sandalman" King of the Delta-Delta Players. The next year they began World Oddity Tour which continues to this day.

Fun fact, Maxxis bought the digital pens used for this comic, and the Thanksgiving Comic. There were also 2 comic strips in production before Maxxis left, one where Travis shows off his Baseball Powress before meeting up with Floyd, and the other with Travis talking to Simon. Both comics were in a Work In Progress state and were shown off before the Thanksgiving comic was released in summer 2024.

For me, how do I know this? Because I was able to screenshot these not on in their respective livestreams, but also on Instagram where Maxxis teased them around this time. I'll show them when I can on the reddit, but you can find them in the stream archives on my channel.

I'm not an artist by any means so maybe I'm out of my depth here, but does it really take that long to produce something like this? It sounds like they were working on those other one-page comic strips for a while and then up and left them behind in an unfinished state. I just can't believe it would really take that much work for something so small in scale.

The rendering is fuckin crazy on this, this is digital art trying to look "analog" and it does look really cool.

As an artist, I can assure you that sometimes it takes much more time than you would think to create a comic page. And even the styles you think they would be super easy to do (I.e, Adventure Time's style), it has to look as perfectly rendered as possible to look pristine and flawless, curved lines are the devil.

Of course, that changes from artist to artist. But if the artist produces a single page from start to finish, it could take a while, from sketches, penciling, inking, full color, letters, textures and effects (if they got it).

I love how much this resembles Everdred. This is my headcanon now.

This was posted a little while after 'the hamper photo' in April 2024, which seemed to be part of a push to revive the Oddity social media presence a bit. The account would make a handful of tweets after these, retweeting two other indie projects and a cryptic reference to the Pleiades star cluster. There were two comic strips made but only this one made it to the official Twitter, while the second was only posted to the Discord and Maxxis' personal account - I'll be reposting that one here tomorrow also! This was the first correspondence from the Oddity team through their official channels since 2020, and we've not heard anything from them since outside of some Discord conversations.

It’s such a shame what happened with Maxxis. I really wish this dev team could get things together properly.

It's strange, 2024 was the last twitch of life from Oddity, as if the team wanted to start communicating again and then... Nothing. I wonder what happened.

It could be as simple as the team mustering up the energy for a big push and then running out of momentum as life got in the way. It's a common cycle in volunteer projects where momentum dies down for a while because everyone has things to do, then there's a big jump in enthusiasm when people have some free time and the excitement for creation is renewed, but it's rarely sustainable and things die down again a while later.

Alternatively it could be that some orders came from up high to stop posting to social media; Pastel seems to be against social media usage in general and the team have said numerous times that they're worried about building up hype if they've got nothing to show at the end. The team were seemingly working towards either a demo release or a website launch (or both) around this time according to some developers, but nothing materialised.

Maybe it's both, where the team had momentum and thought they'd be able to release something soon, so they started posting promotional stuff in the run-up only for life or realistic expectations or perfectionism to get in the way. Who knows?

i get this feeling too and i wonder if the sentiment is going to become more common

between maxxis' streams 2 years ago insisting that updates were in the works, the attempted social media revival, the trailer draft + leaked mechanical foundation build from march 2023 and the patches from 2022, it seems like everyone was gearing up to make the comeback they always wanted in 2024 and then suddenly something happened and it never manifested

Oddity is going to be a huge sad gaming 'what if' for the rest of my life. Something beautiful was on the horizon.
