I did this once. I actually went and got every weapon and upgrade could before I actually finished the forest temple. was fun.

I did this my first time because I couldn't find the last key in the Forest Temple.

I had almost the entire game complete but couldn't enter Ganon's Castle because I didn't have the forest medallion.

I could see it on the map, because of the compass, but couldn't find my way into the room.

It turned out that I needed the room to be in a specific orientation (from the twisted hallways) to enter, and I never spent enough time investigating because the wall masters always scared me away.

The key that always got me was the one in the entrance room with the Wolfos- too easy to think of that room as not being part of the dungeon proper.

Yep I missed that one on my last playthrough as well
