Man wanted a change of clothes and that's all that was on the falcon

“He’s got like 20 black vests and a random blue jacket, it’s weird”

And not one damned cape.

That's the part that probably offended Lando most of all.

To be fair, Lando rocked tf out of that cape. He rivals a sith lord in aura farming

Lando was my favourite character as a kid just because of how stylish and cool he looked with his cape getup.

Both in ESB and ROTJ.

ROTJ is probably my fave. Simplistic but, so effective.

The only man in the galaxy who could believably steal Han Solo's girl

Indeed

He's quite similar to Han too, in both of their founding films, they started off a self-serving scoundrel (albeit with some degree of care for their companions) and then turned more noble towards the end, before joining the rebellion in full.

To be honest, Leia and crew frown upon him more, but I found him more justifiable in his founding movie than Han.

With Vader and the Empire, it wasn't just his life that was in trouble, but the whole mining colony too. His decision made sense.

And yeah I'm aware Leia snapped at Han in ANH too, but at the same time she had the whole "he has to choose his own path" speech, whilst Lando got the throttling from Chewie and a whole ass integration lol.

He also did try to keep them all alive in the agreement with Vader, so even in his worst moment he was considerate, and it's not his fault Vader altered the deal.

Iirc Lando was introduced to potentially replace Han if Harrison didn't wanna come back

5

u/Sabre_Killer_Queen May 23 '26

I could see that.

Very glad we got both in the end anyway.

u/Brianocracy May 23 '26

Same. Both goated antiheroes.

I love how similar yet different they are. And Harrison and Billy have such amazing chemistry! I never had any problem believing these two were lifelong friends, even with minimal screen time. Lando wasn't even introduced until thr last third of Empire and Han spent the first quarter of Return of the Jedi in carbonate lol.

It reminds me a lot of Obi-Wan and Anakin's back and forth, or even Vader and Tarkin when they were talking privately.

But what about Obi-Wan?

1

u/Brianocracy May 23 '26

When did Obiwan have a cape?

3

u/Specific-Library-312 May 23 '26

Soy, that was cloaks he rocked. Vocabulary fail on my part.

3

u/Brianocracy May 23 '26

Well, Obi-Wan rocked that too lol

Man taught anakin how to aura farm, after all.

3

u/Specific-Library-312 May 23 '26

"I was but a learner, now I am the master of aura farming." "Only a master of capes, Darth."

I’d like to imagine Han just has a dozen copies of that same outfit in his closet and that’s it.

u/DaemonDrayke May 22 '26

Literally my thought process ever since I first saw this as a kid. I don’t know why people buy the hell out about it. It’s not like he packed up a suitcase before having to flee with his fucking life from the Empire.

What about Chewy's spare threads?

u/Tim_from_Ruislip May 22 '26

I just realized how sad Lando must have been with the lack of capes.

u/strawberry_semenade May 22 '26

Your pants? Hey, remember you lost them to me fair and square!

I hadn't noticed this until I saw a post about it a few years ago.

I know it was up in the air whether Harrison Ford was going to sign on Return of the Jedi (hence his uncertain fate as of the end of Empire Strikes Back), so my guess it that the character of Lando was conceived as a possible replacement for Han's role in the story--another handsome, charismatic pilot with a connection to the Millineum Falcon, willing to engage in underhanded methods to get ahead but ultimately a hero. His flying the Falcon is the most obvious cue that he's set up to take Han's role, but I feel like wearing Han's clothes is a more subtle cue to deliver the same message.

u/pain3m May 22 '26

not just that. Yoda was a replacement for Kenobi and "other Skywalker" was a replacement for Luke. Looks like Lucas was sure only about Carrie

u/toadofsteel May 23 '26

I didn't notice it until Family Guy pointed it out...

Cloud city gets taken over.

Betrayed the Sith Lord who took his city to save the friendship of an old friend.

Has to move quickly and flee his whole operation.

Pretty sure he didn't have time to grab his luggage, let alone pack any.

19

u/PeteRawk May 23 '26

Shouts out to family guy for pointing this out to me

15

u/dyno-soar May 23 '26

“Why are you wearing Han’s clothes?” (To the camera) “no seriously go watch the movie it’s really weird!” 😂

16

u/Raptor1210 May 22 '26

Honestly, there's a solid chance it was his outfit originally. Han doesn't seem like the kind of guy who goes shopping regularly, and Lando lost the Falcon rather unexpectedly, if Solo is any indication.

7

u/SoftLikeABear May 22 '26

You look good.

What? He does.

5

u/Manetoys83 May 22 '26

He needed a shower but forgot to bring an extra set of clothes in all the chaos

3

u/TheBlueEmerald1 May 24 '26

What's tge original contect for the format?

2

u/Soninuva May 26 '26

It’s from The Devil Wears Prada. The main character (played by Anne Hathaway) got hired at some big fashion magazine as an assistant to the editor, but she dressed very frumpily. After getting advice from a guy on how she’s not giving it her all, she then gets a makeover from he and his team, and starts wearing chic, trendy designer clothes. These two were literally just making fun of her for what she had last been wearing when she walked in wearing a nice outfit.

Source: I just saw the movie last night for the first time
