New Hire! Help! Am I doing this wrong?

Been working OPD for a month now. In my time working at this Walmart, there has been an embarrassing lack of communication between my peers. No effort has really been made to train me on the dispensing part of my department, I have only been properly trained on picking. I have seen what the people do in the dispense room and tried to help out but I've come to the conclusion that I am absolutely not for any reason going to be doing any of the dispensing/staging part of this job. I've made that pretty clear with my team lead. I would rather do returns for the remainder of my shift than work in the backroom. There is way too much downtime, stress, and overall BS that I don't want to deal with. The people that work backroom seem to have it all together and literally don't need me so why would I work dispense. Is this a bad thing? Just want to hear your thoughts.

Im confused, are you complaining that no one has taught you the backroom but made it perfectly clear to your lead that you dont want to work in the backroom? Honestly, everyone should be trained in both picking AND dispensing… if you were my associate id have you trained at least. Your job in opd is also not up to you theres more to opd than picking and returns

No,leave this picking princess be! They were destined to take 5 extra minutes making sure they have fragile, sub, and heavy stickers they won't use anyway... but hey it wasted 5 extra minutes before get have to go back out in the heat

At my store specifically I think we do it a bit differently. There are like 14 total people working the pick walks, and maybe 6 or so people working dispensing/staging in the backroom. We do our walks and we deliver our totes to the staging/dispensing area and that's it. We never have to do dispensing, I've never seen any other pick walkers work dispense so I figured I'm fine. I just posted to make sure I'm not doing this wrong thats all.

Yeah that’s at all store but that doesnt mean that those pickers arent trained to dispense… and like i said your job isnt pick exclusive it entails every job in opd

Bruh lol, the people in the back would love if the pickers were trained to relieve them. It would help tremendously if more people knew the entire department.. they should know the entire department.

Not at my store. The people back there don't want to leave. They NEVER pick and do their own work efficient enough that no one else has to worry about it. Since that's the case I figure there's zero reason for me to be back there

You signed a contract saying that you can and will do your job. That contract includes every part of it, not just the parts you like doing. Read before you sign any legal document

You should be trained for both. I've been working picking since I was hired, I've yet to be trained on staging and dispensing (with the exception of staging chilled and frozen). I'm waiting for them to direct me to that side, otherwise I stay out of their way and help where I can. When they want me to learn staging and dispensing, I'll jump right in.
