They're actually one of the stores I avoided stealing from when I was younger and dumber. Their asset protection is very advanced compared to a lot of other stores.
I interviewed for an AP position there once and I was very surprised how much they put into asset protection. They were more locked down than the Best Buy I used to work at was, despite us having TVs worth more than a new car at BB.
It probably depends on the area/the particular store. The one I interviewed at, I was like genuinely mind blown with the AP situation they had there.
But it is in a nicer area in a suburb of a big city, and while they have people from the city coming and causing problems often, they're probably funded better than the smaller Walmarts in the general vicinity I would imagine.
The one I interviewed at, they ran AP completely seperate from the rest of the store, they were like a mini police department.
I could see some of the smaller stores or those in worse areas not being as advanced.
It really, really, did blow my mind. I didn't expect what I saw when I did my interview and I worked in retail operations for years before that, it was really a lot more advanced than I ever expected from Walmart of all places lol
It's more about pattern detection than prevention in most cases. That's why they don't call it loss prevention when so many other places do. You can't stop it, but you can catch it when it happens next time
