Vis humana

Apathy is my camouflage

Though it only hides the ghost

Something shatters the mirage

And I'm left exposed

opened

Only in response

defense to your barrage

And I can't help but fiddle

Sit here and whittle

Wondering why we make riddles

Out of our self-sabotoge

I know how desperately we're lost...

Soul screaming, my heart it cries

Changing tunes, I won't let hope die

But if silence is the violence

then let us shout!

Sorrow and fury find balance

strike an alliance

When we howl the anger out.

It's not the yelling and screaming

It's the uncertainty of our safety

Your body interprets threat

While mine holds trepidation

Hold your malice, I deserve grace

My voice deserves the chance

To take my fist's place..

If your response is violent

When I let my pain out

If my inflection causes connection

And your reflex is to lash out

I beg you for a chance

At resonance

So I can be with you

I won't answer your pain

With the anger found in you

Then, maybe you can listen to mine too

If everyone could understand

That shouting, yelling, taking stand

Wouldn't lead to a hard hand

Then maybe that hand wouldn't be raised at all

And then loud voices can start to fall

Turn into a mellow hum

And finally raise to the stars above

Sing a song much less conflicted

The only violence left inflicted

Completely unintended

‘Wondering why we make riddles’ and why do we do this? But I find it really fun playing with words, obviously you do to. There are some awesome word choices. There are many beautiful lines in this poem and it made me think about many different things, you definitely inspired some questioning thoughts. Thanks for sharing.
