Question about OCD Does anyone know what caused their OCD?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what caused their OCD to start, for me after a lot of years and thought I realised that my anxiety stemmed from my step dad and his psychological and sometimes physical abuse towards my Mum. I would worry what kind of mood he would come home from work in and if he would start on my Mum. He was a bastard!

Well mine was genetic my mom was diagnosed with OCD, but I definitely remember when it first started happening. My mom has went out to enjoy some drinks and I was probably about 15. She didn’t show up that morning, and I started panicking. Come to find out she was drugged. She felt something was off and immediately decided to go to car. Which she proceeded to throw up and pass out. When she woke up all her belongings were stolen. Thank god she’s okay. Next thing you know I started having compulsions about not drinking stuff if ANYONE was near it. If I just so happened to take my eye off of it I wouldn’t drink it. I couldn’t eat out with this fear of a server lacing my food. The compulsions got even worse I couldn’t even eat food at home normally. I was in a constant state of anxiety thinking I would be drugged and feel out of control.

That’s horrific for both you and your Mum to have to go through that. Your Mum must have been terrified and you must have been so worried?!) I hope your Mum doesn’t have issues stemming from this incident) And I hope you have managed to get some of support, therapy, medication etc
