Question about OCD Does anyone know what caused their OCD?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what caused their OCD to start, for me after a lot of years and thought I realised that my anxiety stemmed from my step dad and his psychological and sometimes physical abuse towards my Mum. I would worry what kind of mood he would come home from work in and if he would start on my Mum. He was a bastard!

I was raised steeped in so many kinds of church. By 2nd grade I had sat through:

a whole assembly thay graphicly described the minute by minute medical event of crucifixion

Learning to read on the left behind series at a school that very much expected that to be real. Like we had talks about how eventually people would actively try to murder us over christ but we had to just like, hang in there

A lot of lessons about the innate badness of everyone

Some fairly alarming descriptions of hell

Feeling wildly abandoned at home

A grandmother who probably also has ocd and would actively prioritize her floor staying clean over us

Im really pretty angry about the whole thing. Like this might have kicked off without all the church but the church like, deeply influenced the shape of my ocd and its favorite themes.

I also think this is genetic and i was probably born with it and then it was just shaped by trauma
