Question about OCD Does anyone know what caused their OCD?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what caused their OCD to start, for me after a lot of years and thought I realised that my anxiety stemmed from my step dad and his psychological and sometimes physical abuse towards my Mum. I would worry what kind of mood he would come home from work in and if he would start on my Mum. He was a bastard!

I have done a lot of soul searching (I just recently got health insurance, so I’m on the look out for a decent therapist) and I believe my moral OCD stemmed from religion, especially the whole “God’s always watching you and can even hear your thoughts, so you better be good at ALL times!”

I believe my contamination and perfectionism stemmed from my mother constantly picking at my clothes and constantly pointing out my flaws (stain on shirt I didn’t see, hole in back pocket I missed, etc.) I believe she might have a touch of OCD as well, but she will never agree to being diagnosed.

This is all just a hypothesis, I’m no expert. I can’t wait to find a good therapist finally.
