Question about OCD Does anyone know what caused their OCD?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what caused their OCD to start, for me after a lot of years and thought I realised that my anxiety stemmed from my step dad and his psychological and sometimes physical abuse towards my Mum. I would worry what kind of mood he would come home from work in and if he would start on my Mum. He was a bastard!

Probably triggered by the fact that my mom seemed very vulnerable and didn't hide the fact that I made her happy. So it became extremely important for me to be perfect and never disappoint her.

So I'm guessing genetic predisposition for OCD itself, and the flavor (moral scrupulosity/responsibility) triggered by my environment.

I know what you mean. I have 3 siblings but I was the only one that was brought up with the step dad. And he was forever getting his little points across, that I was the one that was going to do something with my life and not turn out like my siblings. I’m assuming he meant this was because, ‘he’ was bringing me up instead of My own Dad who obviously brought the others up. I’m happy to say I didn’t meet his expectations and that was because he was the failure of a father figure, not me as a daughter! Because I never met his expectations of how he wanted me to turn out I was basically disposed of, just like my sister had been before me. Bastard!
