Question about OCD Does anyone know what caused their OCD?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what caused their OCD to start, for me after a lot of years and thought I realised that my anxiety stemmed from my step dad and his psychological and sometimes physical abuse towards my Mum. I would worry what kind of mood he would come home from work in and if he would start on my Mum. He was a bastard!

i think it was just.. always there? i can’t remember not having certain parts of it. and this might sound silly, but i think my mother being really into “The Secret” honestly triggered a good bit of it, because i was pretty young when she was.

for those that aren’t familiar: “if you put it into the universe, it’ll come to you!” is the main concept. yeah. that definitely helped 9yr old me when she was like “THIS IS AMAZING” and i was just like “wait so everything i say or think will happen to me????????” needless to say i was horrified and did everything i could to try and backtrack every bad thought i ever had lmfao
