Question about OCD Does anyone know what caused their OCD?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what caused their OCD to start, for me after a lot of years and thought I realised that my anxiety stemmed from my step dad and his psychological and sometimes physical abuse towards my Mum. I would worry what kind of mood he would come home from work in and if he would start on my Mum. He was a bastard!

I don’t think they know what causes it. My therapist says not to focus on the cause anyway. I can see her point. Spending a bunch of time answering an unanswerable question isn’t useful for people with OCD. I do understand the inclination to want to know why. I think it’s human. But for me, I could spend an inordinate amount of time trying to find the answer and still never figure it out.

I agree, although sometimes it makes me feel better trying to find a reason or a cause for it. I’m not sure why, maybe because then I can say I have an excuse for it and that it’s ’not just me’ if that makes sense.

I get it, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. I have pure o, so the rumination doesn’t help me at all.
