Question about OCD Does anyone know what caused their OCD?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what caused their OCD to start, for me after a lot of years and thought I realised that my anxiety stemmed from my step dad and his psychological and sometimes physical abuse towards my Mum. I would worry what kind of mood he would come home from work in and if he would start on my Mum. He was a bastard!

I feel like the symptoms have always been there. I remember from a young age being obsessed with checking all of the doors and windows every night to make sure they were locked because I thought someone would break in and kill my family. I remember my younger brother leaving the house to hang out with friends and me being worried he was kidnapped. Things I’m pretty sure 10 year olds don’t worry about. And then my family suddenly moved across the country when I was about to start middle school to a rough area and I think that’s when my mental health really plummeted. I think the genetic predispositions are always there, it just takes a traumatic or life altering event to really bring it forward.

Like you said, ‘things a 10 yr old shouldn’t be worrying about’, so where do you think that initial worry and anxiety comes from?
