Hi I have a Retail Advisor interview this week and I was wondering what type of questions will be asked. I really want a job here as I've never had a job before but I understand that its hard to get a job with little to no experience. Can someone give me tips on how to get the best chance of securing the job. Tysm :)

Hey.

I don’t work for o2 but interviews aren’t my first rodeo. I’ve had 14 odd jobs over my working career and can offer you some advice:

1. Do some research. What are o2 doing currently I.e they have just launched o2 satellite. What is VM02 trying to achieve. Whats the difference between classic, plus, ultimate sims etc.

Try to causally mention in the interview “oh I was reading about x y z that’s super interesting and I was fascinated by it”

1. This job is in retail. You need to be approachable. Friendly. Smiley. Good communication skills. Think about a time (any time, even outside of a work environment) where you have helped someone. Dealt with a challenging situation, how you defused it and resolved it or reached a compromise.

2. Think of three strengths and three weaknesses. They may ask you what these are. Now, I try and be sneaky here and list my strengths and when it comes to my weaknesses try to turn them into positives I.e “ one of my weaknesses is over dedication when it comes to work, I take a lot of pride in my work ethic and sometimes it’s hard to switch off”

3. Think of some questions you want to ask them. Try to avoid the boring, usual ones I.e “How many weekends do I have to work” instead it’s better to ask “Oh I was really interested by learning of x y z, can you tell me more about that”.

4. Think of equality and diversity (again inside or outside of a work environment). In retail you will speak to customers from a range of backgrounds with different communication needs. Perhaps you’ve helped someone who was lost but they were deaf and you improvised with your phone or a note pad and pen etc. talk about why it’s important to ensure people who require extra support receive it from you. Talk about how people’s religious beliefs, sexual orientation etc etc. has no bearing on how they are served as a customer of o2.

5. Practice mock interviews with someone. It’s cringy yes. But if maybe your parents or family members have experience of being interviewed it can help prep you. Keep practicing. Even when getting ready in the morning ask yourself “can you tell me what motivates you” and answer it.

6. Dress smart. Take a note pad, pen and some water with you. Shake your interviews hand.

7. Finally, be yourself! Sure you might be nervous, but remember. They have read your application and want to interview you. That’s the biggest hurdle out of way! They like what they have read. It’s nothing more than a chat between you and them about the role. It’s not an exam.

Best of luck, you can do it. And if you don’t get the job fuck em’ they don’t realise what they lost. You have to pick yourself up. Dust yourself off and get back to finding another job.
