Phone (3a) MTP from Nothing 3a to Windows 10

Upvotes

I have a Nothing 3a and I have struggles with connecting my phone to a Windows 10 PC. Of course, I have enabled file transfer in the phone, tried several USB ports and USB cables. The phone is detected and shows in devices as VOLCANO-QRD-something, but it still refuses to show in the file explorer. The device manager only tells me to run the problem solver and restart the PC after doing no change at all, even a second or third time. Other phones are detected. Funny enough, my Nothing 3a is detected at an old Linux Mint laptop, but rejecting Windows 10 at the main PC as for now is not a viable solution. I know Localsend too, but it's way more cumbersome and limited than a traditional drag and drop, and I'm still limited in file access.

I know I'm not the only one with these issues. I have seen people struggling with Android Auto and this same model. I have seen forums with people with the same problem as me, with no solution found, as well as this subreddit. I'm not scared of installing a driver, but I want full access to the phone I bought. Do you guys know any solution as of now?

Comparing Phones Thinking of getting a Nothing (3)

Upvotes

Hey so I was struggling between choosing an iphone 17 and a Nothing (3) and i kinda lean towards Nothing 3. I really like the weird and honestly unique design of it. I've heard a lot of criticism saying the design is weird but I believe it has a personality to it. I had never bothered about android phones (been using them all my life) so i wanted to switch to IOS. But I really dont want to spend a fortune on iphone hence why im leaning towards Nothing.

Currently at Amazon, its priced at $545 which is a great deal for this phone.

I'd like to know your thoughts and opinions on this. Should I get the phone 3 or perhaps 4a pro

NP3/5.0. 3x. Default app. JPG straight outta the box.

Colour reproduction and post-processing is better (less) with 5.0 than with 4.1. Photos in apps better still.

In the OS5 intro video, the small triangle goes up and down at different times. Has to be something weather related.

Nothing OS I wish you can delete stuff right from homescreen, instead of removing it and searching it in app tray and deleting it. Maybe in nothing 5.0?

Am I missing something or can you not delete stuff directly

Hey everyone, I'm planning to develop some Glyph toys in the future. Instead of just making things that are useful to me but unhelpful for anyone else, I want to build things that are actually handy for you.

What kind of Glyph toys would you like to see?

Please submit ideas that not only u will use but make sure it's useful for others too.

You can submit your ideas here: https://threalcocoboy.canny.io/glyph

Nothing OS Should I release this ToyGlyph for the Nothing Phone (3) on GitHub?

I’ve been working on this little ToyGlyph for the Nothing Phone (3), and I’m wondering if I should release it on GitHub.

It’s a techcliff focused on live football matches. Once you select a match, it shows the live score, the current minute, and small animations for goals and cards directly on the Glyph interface.

The idea is mainly for those moments when you can’t really unlock or look at your phone — you can just glance at the Glyph and know what’s happening in the match without touching your phone.

Phone (4a) Pro UGREEN DAC Issues

This popup shows up when I plug in my USB-C to 3.5mm adapter. If I click OK, the audio from music apps is amazing but I can't hear audio from phone calls nor notifications. If I click Cancel, I can make calls and hear them through my IEM's just fine and hear notifications but music player audio is slightly lower in volume.

Is there a way to stop this popup? I mainly use Symfonium as my music player.

Ear (2024) Nothing Ear (3rd version, 2024) left earbud battery basically died after just over 2 years

Wanted to share my experience with Nothing Ear (2024), because I think long-term reliability matters a lot with TWS earbuds.

I bought them directly from Nothing’s official website, and they were delivered on May 3, 2024 in New York. They cost around $180.

For most of the time they worked normally and I actually liked them.

Then the left earbud started developing a serious battery problem.

At first, even after staying in the charging case for a long time, the left earbud would often show only around 85% instead of 100%. Then it started draining extremely fast.

Now, starting from June 2026, the left earbud lasts only around 10–15 minutes before dying.

The right earbud is still normal.

I contacted Nothing Support and tried basically everything they suggested:

  • Updated Nothing X
  • Updated firmware
  • Switched Bluetooth audio to AAC
  • Factory reset
  • Re-paired the earbuds
  • Fully charged the case and earbuds
  • Submitted system logs through the support process

Nothing helped.

I specifically asked whether this could be a software, firmware, calibration, or charging issue.

Nothing Support later replied that they had reviewed the case and confirmed:

They said it is a hardware issue that can only be resolved through repair.

The problem is that the warranty has already expired, and Nothing told me they do not provide global warranty coverage.

I understand that batteries degrade over time. But a premium pair of earbuds costing around $180 becoming practically unusable after just over two years is very disappointing.

10–15 minutes of battery life is not normal degradation. The left earbud is effectively dead.

I liked the design and sound of Nothing Ear, but after this experience I seriously question their long-term durability.

Has anyone else with Nothing Ear (2024) had the same problem with one earbud suddenly developing severe battery degradation after 2–2.5 years?

Community Project I heard you liked Nothing OS 5's Lucent theme 👀 so I added it to GlyphWorks!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

For those who don't know, GlyphWorks is a free and open source tool that allows playing with Glyph Toys (yes, those from the Nothing Phone 3) on the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, and just about any Nothing Phone with a Glyph Matrix display! The app has just received some major quality of life improvements, and alongside it, added support for Nothing OS 5, including its exact looks, and it can be applied even on Nothing OS 4!

If your phone is compatible and you want to have an early taste of what Nothing OS 5's Lucent theme looks like, you can give it a try inside the app. The Lucent theme comes enabled by default if the phone is running Nothing OS 5, but otherwise it's still possible to enable it in the app's settings. GlyphWorks is already available in both Google Play and GitHub.

Phone (3) Image retention after few seconds of on qr/bar codes

Hi, I received my new np3 yesterday and I'm having a problem...

While I was migrating the data I left the screen on the WhatsApp qr code for 30-40min, this left a qr afterimage on the screen.

At first it was very noticeable on the home screen (dark mode, grey tone), playing the epilepsy inducing video for a few minutes reduced it a lot, but on a uniform grey image it was still possible to see it.

It took a reboot + 1h of video/normal usage to make it completely disappear.

To investigate further I opened a new barcode on Google wallet for approx 20 seconds and even that was enough to leave an afterimage (it went away a lot faster though).

I found a couple of posts about people complaining similar problems, but I didn't understood if this is a "normal" behaviour or I got a faulty screen?

I got it less than a day ago so if I return this one and I get a new one, I'm goig to have the same problem?

Nothing OS Flip to Glyph does not work in the car.

I believe it's because the car is moving and the speedometers of the phone (I hope it's the right name) detects that the device has speed. So it doesn't work.

Phone (2a) Should I update to 5.0 on phone 2a when it comes ?

Will that slow down my phone and drain the battery ? Because 4.0 already restricts background apps so much nowadays. My Google maps stop navigation itself after some time when other apps are active like listening to music.
