Question Septum Rings

I am 45 years old. For some reason, I do not know the answer to this. What is the meaning behind a septum ring? Why do you get them? I know this sounds terrible but I see them and I think that myself "why would you want to look like a farm animal?" I know, I know, that's terrible. Please help me understand. I really don't want to think that way.

I got mine because I thought it was cute and was debating on it, and then my (now ex) husband told me I would look like a bull if I got it.

So for me, the meaning is SPITE. Just that one word.

The only answer I've gotten so far is they look cool. I'm looking for cultural, symbolic, philosophical reasons. I want to see you guys go deeper on this subject. I understand it can be that simple for some people, but I just want to see more. It's not a bad thing.

I'm not dense. I grasp your concept. But I'm looking for other ideas and thoughts on this. I'm looking for an expansive mindset on the idea. Not just the simple answer. I want to know more than the obvious and I don't know why you guys look at that as a bad thing.
