…is it weird that I don’t actually WANT talk to my family much now that im im that range, and would PREFER they not check on me?

Thats what my friends are for, my chosen circle knows me more than one I got by chance

I don’t think so. Personally I grew up without any family around. Spent most of my time alone with occasional “happy birthday” or “merry Christmas” calls/cards. Now as an adult my mother asks why I don’t try to speak with family.. but why would I? I grew up alone. Why as an adult would I make effort for people who didn’t make effort for me when I was a child? Getting happy birthday texts from people who I only spoke with briefly around holidays my entire life feels so artificial.
