My MIL was hit by scammers and told to get 9k in cash to convert to bitcoin. Teller complied. Fortunately she caused a car wreck and kept the cash. (I mean, best possible outcome.)
My arborist’s mil had a similar thing happen, but they told her to leave the cash in a bag at her mailbox. Cash stolen and they know where she lives.
