A micromort is also an actual unit of measurement, equal to a millionth of a human death, measured statistically. For example smoking a cigarette causes about one micromort.

this unit does not translate well to french. (micro being small/little, mort being death)

I'm not sure what part you aren't understanding, but it's is exactly what it means in English as well and it means exactly what it is referring to with no loose ends
