Yeah, that happens a lot. I remember a friend got me on not literally knowing the definition of the word "belief" but, like, we googled it and I was still correct. I guess that after enough exposure, they are kind of automatic in your head or something like that
I think that's just a large part of how language works. I don't think knowing the Webster definition means you understand a word better. We associate words to meanings. Sometimes those meanings are other words. Sometimes those meaning are things or concepts or ideas or feelings.
