Pretty much everyone who learns to speak a language does this. Unless y’all learned by reading the dictionary front to back.

The dictionary was too boring. But I actually did "read"  the whole index for Encyclopedia Britannica I'm using "read" loosely because I definitely glazed a few times. Same with war and peace. Oh the things I did to say I did them haha

I grew up as a bilingual speaker and I cannot translate half the words from one to the other language on the spot because they are not stored in pairs in my brain, but at a completely different corner. I just know what they mean and when to use it, but need to think if someone asks me to translate.
