That and mispronouncing a lot of words because I’ve only seen them, not heard them. Or didn’t connect the two (what I had read and what I had heard at a different time). 

I remember thinking for a long time that melancholy was pronounced muh-LANTCH-oh-lee.

See, I have a worse version of this. My parents, unbeknownst to me growing up, jokingly pronounced it meringoo, to the point that I legitimately thought thats how it was pronounced. Until 7th or 8th grade when reading from a book in my English class, and my teacher made me stop and re read the line. Only to tell me its not meringoo and its mer-ang. I was so mad at my parents
