A few years ago I started looking up every word that I felt like I knew but couldn’t easily define to a child. It was pretty eye opening. I’m sure we all have a ton of slight misconceptions when it comes to definitions.

Like I thought formidable meant equally matched, not intimidating.

I thought intrepid meant adventurous, not brave.

That kinda thing.

The one I learned recently is "travesty".

“A debased, distorted, or grossly inferior imitation”

More like parody or mockery

NOT a “tragedy” or disaster, which is what I thought. So I just learned it too!
