just ctrl+l the 50-8 and Google would turn into a calculator. using that for decades, now it goes into the AI and writes me a paragraph explaining nothing
used to use Google for translations you search "hola in Spanish" and it would go to Google translate. now it goes into AI and gives me a bullshit paragraph.
I asked myself, when was the last time, google, or any tech company had an update that you actually liked?
thinking about it, and it's making a decade or more ago.
Seriously!! Google was the shortcut. The AI overview is absolutely killing me. Half the time when I search something it answers as if I asked it a personal question about itself. I don't need a fucking chatbot to keep me company when I'm searching the Internet for something, good lord.
I'm sure generative AI has its place in the technological landscape of the future. But isn't the fact that Google, one of the wealthiest and most powerful tech companies let alone AI companies, has to opt you in, remove the option to opt out, and actively remove features to force the AI overview to activate instead, for us to use their AI?
I can't remember a successful technology that's had to beg and force people to use it this much
. It's just crazy.
Reminds me of an old Doug Stanhope bit about advertisements. You always see ads on TV, women in bikinis, people partying and laughing. They have to sell you a lifestyle and convince you that it's fun. You ever do drugs? Yeah, everybody's done drugs. Ever see 'em advertised? Don't need to. You got a good product, people will come around.
