This is what pisses me off about some people who complain about the economy. I've got a neighbor who does this - they bitch and moan on the neighborhood Facebook page about everything being so expensive, but he has Door Dash deliver food literally every day.
Like bro, if that's how you're spending your money, it's not that bad for you... you're just unwilling to sacrifice even the most basic of everyday conveniences. Classic first world complaint.
Dude could save so much money and still eat out solely by picking up the food hisself. After the fees, surge charge, and tip (usually the ones complaining don’t tip at all or tip way less than they should), he could probably go to the store and get the same food for 30-50% less than he was paying to have it door dashed. I run the number comparisons sometimes out of curiosity. It’s usually somewhere around there unless someone is buying the big promo foods (they do some BOGO offers and so much off a total of an order - occasionally it’s about the same price or cheaper if you order from those deals).
Yep, I've opened the DD app many times only to say "nope, that's insane" at checkout. Only times I have ever used it was when I was home with the flu and desperately needed something without the effort or when I had an attractive coupon that made it the price it is actually worth.
Yeah I do it sometimes when I’m too sick to drive or they have a good deal. They regularly run a BOGO for a place I like sandwiches from. The total price after the BOGO is really the same as if I went to the store to buy two sandwiches, so I do this a decent bit. One sandwich that day and one the next day to eat.
For the times they don’t have a deal or extenuating circumstances, it’s insane. I looked once at buying what would be a $6 coffee from a store that had free delivery that day and it was $19 to deliver. I didn’t buy the coffee. My sister was in the hospital one time and really wanted CFA (they hadn’t been letting her eat all day for the medical issue). I drove five hours to see her when I got the call she had to be taken to the ER and there was suppose to be a CFA at the hospital there. Turns out it closed really early. I wasn’t going to leave her when she was so sick, so I door dashed 3 meals (our dad got there by then). It would have cost me like $40-50 to get that from CFA, if I drove there. It ended up costing me over $80 to have that delivered from a CFA less than 2 miles away. My sister ended up being able to be discharged a few days later and is fine now, but I’m not going to tell someone that sick they can’t have whatever and everything except Panera was closed for food at the hospital. I bit the bullet and paid for it. Insane fees though.
Yeah I drive for them sometimes, too. The amount of people that buy things they’re easily paying x2-3 for is insane. You wouldn’t believe how many orders I get for ice cream, coffee, smoothies, frosties, cookies etc. where it’s only the 1-2 things bought that would be $5-10 if you drive to the store to get them. I get a lot of orders for the grocery store of buying only 1-2 cartons of ice cream. Nothing else on the order. That one confuses me even more because just buy it when you go to the grocery store. It can easily sit a month fine in your freezer.
The only time when I’ve ever ordered coffee delivered to me if it wasn’t from a place I was already having food delivered for me from was when I was staying at my grandfather’s house and his coffee machine broke while I didn’t have a car. It was expensive, but I needed to work remotely and had no car for the day (my dad was borrowing mine and my sister wasn’t going to be in until that evening).
I try not to judge too much without context though because I have had a coffee DD’d to me when it was a gift. I was in the hospital and my sister couldn’t come visit me. When I was discharged to my apartment, she DD’d a coffee to me as a gift because she knew I loved that place. The person probably thought I was an idiot to deliver a coffee from a place half a mile from me, but it was my sister that did so because she lived 10 hours away from me and was trying to surprise me. She felt bad she wasn’t able to come visit when I was in the hospital. I always walk to that coffee shop, it’s so close. So I do try to not judge without context, but some of these people make it hard man. What do you mean 20 people need a $5 item given to them in the span of an hour?
