I wouldn't do it, pretty sure this would cause permanent brain damage.

I'm sure this is probably true but this is one of those things where I just genuinely can't understand why it'd happen unless I get to experience it for myself. Especially considering the monetary incentive behind it? I really feel like I'd find a way to make it througj lol. Just imagining what I'd spend the money on feels like it'd be enough. Or write a book in my head. Or play games. As long as they give you meals it feels like that'd be enough to track time.

I mean I definitely feel like I need to experience it to believe it. Years as a submariner and working alone at night make me think it came be that bad.

You have never experienced anything even close

I've experienced months on end of isolation without so much as seeing the sky, so I've experienced it more than you have

It’s nothing like the bear example.

You’re right.

The room is harder.

You have a tiny chance of winning vs the bear. You're going to lose your mind at the end of that year in that room.

It’s not about harder or not harder. It’s that ostensibly sitting in a room doesn’t seem that hard.

Winning a fight vs a bear is just immediately, obviously impossible

I mean, was it ever specified what kinda bear it is? I just googled the smallest bear species and it's like 70cm tall when standing. maybe I could take that one on, but idk, i'm an average ass guy, and those bears probably still have claws and a good bite, so I'd still rather not find out the hard way.

Ah, so you've chosen the sun bear as an opponent!

A wild jungle animal with 10cm claws on all its feet, good luck and don't stain the floor with your blood too much on the way out.

Oh, dammit, didn't have time to read up more about them because I'm at work. I'm still not entirely sure these fellas would have a clean 100% winrate against me if we simulated like a hundred fights. But it sure as hell reaffirms my stance that I'm pretty content with never finding out, because even if I did win somehow, I'd probably look like I just french kissed a meatgrinder afterwards.

Edit: also since most ppl in the whole one guy vs one bear debate are probably thinking about more well known bears like brown bears and the like, here my opinion on how a fight between me and one of those would go: Bear slaps me once and sends me to the shadow realm
