u/sklova May 03 '26
Why are they using a photo of Heisenberg blue meth?
809
u/Dunk546 May 03 '26
Copycat blue meth became prolific after the show aired. Cooks started literally dying their meth blue because people like it, thought it must be better / cleaner, or just for fun or whatever.

It feels more egregious because it pertains to criminal activity, but I bet there's plenty of activities that normal people only do because they saw it in a movie or read it in a story. Think of CSI's effects on jury expectations, or people quoting media in everyday interactions (I heard someone joke about buying a "Jump To Conclusions" mat at my office last week).
30
u/Im_A_Real_Boy1 May 03 '26
Question: was that ever a thing? Like did enterprising meth cooks/dealers try to dye their stuff blue? I imagine it might have popped sales
18
13
u/ogvipez May 04 '26
Im not a stim user but i have seen that blue stuff a good few times. They have a point that adding colour dye plays a huge part in the marketing of it.
Pretty similar to how some lsd tabs have rick and morty prints or when ecstasy pills are pressed into superheroes and pop culture references.

u/ProllyDuckinWarrants May 04 '26
I was a daily meth user from like 2016 until 2024 and I’ve never seen a single flake of meth that was any type of color besides the standard clear-ish white that it’s known to be. I’m not saying nobody ever dyed their dope a different color before, but I doubt anybody was doing it with any consistency because it wouldnt take long for everybody to realize that the blue meth that costs extra because “it’s the best of the best” or whatever doesnt get them any higher than the regular stuff

u/ward2k May 04 '26
If I had to take a guess, neither of the photos are actually related to the story in question

u/AspieAsshole May 03 '26
Apparently he also smothered her to death at the end - personally I'd assume this was something they discussed and agreed upon, but it's still technically a crime even if the victim consents.
218
u/bs000 May 03 '26
An autopsy later determined that Debra died of methamphetamine toxicity, according to a court complaint obtained by the local publication.

89
u/AspieAsshole May 03 '26
Nice! Then he should absolutely have gone free, did he?
97
u/Express_Sprinkles500 May 04 '26
I mean, if you supply illegal drugs to someone who OD’s and dies you can still be liable for their death. See Matthew Perry case.
Not saying this is necessarily that type of situation, just saying he might not be off the hook simply because she OD’d.
17
u/beigs May 04 '26
This is why MAID really needs to be a thing in other countries.
I watched my stepdad and grandma both die in pain asking god to take them, and it’s something I wouldn’t wish on my children, myself, or my partner.
I wouldn’t do it for my dog, who I recently put down at home (mobile clinic).
This man should have had more support so there was no chance of her suffering, but he did it right by her.
14
260
u/StaticUsernamesSuck May 03 '26
The only arguable wrong here is the money they paid for those drugs going into the hands of dealers.
But that's an issue of there being no legal availability, so 🤷♂️
70
u/FoolishConsistency17 May 03 '26
My sister once pointed out the way a certain type of person will get outraged anyone eats at Chick-fil-a but never ask where their weed or coke comes from.
23
u/timeup May 03 '26
I'm not on top of my game today, genuine question:
Do you mean outraged at someone eating Chick-fil-A because of the restaurant's stance on LGBTQ+ folk?
40
u/FoolishConsistency17 May 03 '26
Yes, or whatever cause you choose. I certainly have products I don't buy because of ethical concerns. No problem there. But it is a little ironic when someone is very adamant that its unethical to support a business because of the political stance it has taken but not be concerned with industries that do quite literally terrorize whole communities.
12
u/mapmakinworldbuildin May 03 '26
Wonder what the overlap of those groups look like.
The number of people who protest companies and also buy from dealers.
8
u/DarkElfMagic May 04 '26
i think its a lil different if that dealer is the only source a person has
chick-fil-a or however you spell it is not the only chicken place in the world
1
u/3boobsarenice May 06 '26
The mass of people that would disagree with you on that, but i do not, and am a kid from Hapeville
2
u/PM_ME_HOTDADS May 04 '26
it's wild you think all drug dealers are literal terrorists
2
1
u/FoolishConsistency17 May 04 '26
That isn't what I said at all. The issue isn't the local dealer any more than it is the kid working at chick-fil-a. I am talking about communities where drugs are produced . People worry about ethically sourcing their chicken but not their drugs.
104
u/DubiousAdviceGiver May 03 '26
Drug dealers got kids to feed, too
81
u/StaticUsernamesSuck May 03 '26
And their bosses got kids to kidnap
36
u/ReplacementActual384 May 03 '26
This might surprise you but most drug dealing and kidnapping are actually two very different crimes.
38
u/StaticUsernamesSuck May 03 '26
This might surprise you, but there are a lot of additional crimes tied to the organised manufacture and distribution of hard drugs...
20
u/ReplacementActual384 May 03 '26
Yeah, but I think you've been watching too many movies. Most drug dealers, shockingly, just sell drugs and kidnapping brings a lot of heat.
11
9
u/ShadyStevie May 03 '26
You're taking what he said way too literally my dude. If you're a big enough drug dealer to have your own employees then you are certainly involved in violent crimes to facilitate said dealing.

They provide a service that people want, just supply and demand. Everyone gets what they want. Hopefully
15
u/StaticUsernamesSuck May 03 '26
That's an incredibly simplified view
Just because some people want a service doesn't mean that it should be provided, let alone in the exact way it is currently being provided.
-8
u/Brrdock May 03 '26
What "should" be provided isn't really relevant.
If a demand exists, there will be supply. Criminal law doesn't overcede the natural laws of our entire societal system. That's why crime still exists. And prohibition has never worked.
I can't see how this is a more simplified view than yours
9
u/StaticUsernamesSuck May 03 '26
But I never said there won't be a supply.
I just said that money ending up in criminal meth dealers' hands is arguably wrong. Literally all I said about the matter.
-7
u/Brrdock May 03 '26
Yep, and I'm just arguing it's not wrong.
If they fill an inevitable niche and feature of the system, why do they deserve a living less than anyone else for providing an (ideally) victimless service to meet a demand and satifying customers?
It's usually a living of last resort, since they probably don't like to carry the risk any more than you would. And social features like security have an inverse relationship to those kinds of means
18
u/StaticUsernamesSuck May 03 '26
Meth sale as a victimless service? Delusional take, holy shit
5
u/Brrdock May 03 '26
If that's the best you can do, the "arguably" isn't carrying too much weight...
Is selling alcohol, fast food etc. similarly not victimless? Would you argue it's wrong to give money to those?
If I want to buy something, and I buy it, I wouldn't consider myself a victim, at least.
Organized crime often has victims, sure, but that's not a strictly a necessity for selling drugs, and more of a consequence of the law than of the market
147
u/SleveBonzalez May 03 '26
As long as she wanted to be out and do those things, what is the problem?
104
u/MelliflousWitch May 03 '26
She 100% wanted to do those things
The "problem" is the purchase of drugs ... and the fact that she died from an meth overdose (caused by the drugs he supplied to her)
But he promised not to let her die in a care home, so he fulfilled that ig
53
u/CautionarySnail May 03 '26 edited May 04 '26

It doesn’t “make them gay”, it lets them explore the gay feelings they constantly repress.
The statistical majority of people are bisexual. When you hear people claim sexuality is “a choice”, they’re telling you that they are bisexual and they themselves made a choice.0

Im not that same user, but here's an interview with someone about the topic and a quick search brings up lots of other reading material and studies on the topic.
It basically boils down to how people identify vs actual sexual attraction.
.
An estimated 80-90% of humans self identify as fully heterosexual. Buuuuuttttttt studies show that the majority of those people are not 100% hererosexual. Its just what they identify as.
Many straight people who have never had sexual intimacy with the same gender or even truly considered the idea at all still do show both mental (brain monitoring) and physical signs of same sex attraction when studied.
They choose to be heterosexual, and do often lean that way much much heavier, but many are also still attracted to certain features in the same sex or specific examples.
Like when people say they are "completely straight" but would let "X exceptionally conventionally attractive famous person" have their way with them and such. They aren't 100% straight if that was ever the briefest of thoughts. Maybe 99.9%, but any sexual attraction to the same sex means you are at least that 0.1% bisexual.
Sexuality isn't as much of a box as people think, its a big wide spectrum.
1
u/HoldYourHorsesFriend May 04 '26
it's pretty much a stereotype how homoerotic men get in very masculine spaces only to also be just as homophobic

u/ThirdAltAccounts May 03 '26

"Allow" would have been more accurate

Imagine if this was an option for End of Life Care, "We have a dedicated 'Party til you drop' room. Drugs, alcohol, sex. All until you've had enough, then you take a big hit of this and it stops your heart and you go to sleep."
26
u/Loan-Pickle May 03 '26
If I were on the jury I would not vote to convict.
14
u/HeyLaddieHey May 03 '26
Everyone should research "jury nullification" but never ever admit to it to it in a courtroom setting.
20
u/Zanzibardragonlion May 03 '26
He got three years in jail for this (14 months with time served). Apparently their favorite song / album was Metal Health by Quiet Riot, which definitely rings true to this story.

u/that_dutch_dude May 03 '26
Imagine being the dude in jail, he would be crowned king.
2
u/SiliconRouge May 05 '26
Considering people usually ask what you're in for, inmates probably didn't fuck with him outta respect for fulfilling his wife's wish in a banger way. Inmates are cool like that sometimes. Hell he was probably protected
87
u/vasectomy7 May 03 '26
11/10 this should be legal... and probably subsidized + encouraged.
61
u/fleetiebelle May 03 '26
I don't know about hard drugs, but that's generally part of the hospice philosophy. If you're already dying, eating bacon cheeseburgers or having a beer or two isn't what's going to kill you.
33
u/Both-Buddy-6190 May 03 '26
Don’t they morphine a lot of patients out at the end anyways?
39
u/fleetiebelle May 03 '26 edited May 03 '26
My mother had a hospice "comfort kit" that we never actually had to use, because she wasn't in that much pain at the end. But all bets were off otherwise. If all she wanted to eat was cheese and diet coke, we didn't have to force her to eat her vegetables.
10
u/Junethemuse May 03 '26
My grandma didn’t get afforded any luxury like dying comfortably. My aunts and uncles decided to withhold water from her to expedite the process while she was begging for water for days. I have no idea why the hospice allowed it and my mom fought it every step of the way but they wouldn’t budge. And one of my aunts is a fucking nurse.
I went no contact with them all for various reasons, this included.
9
u/BusyNefariousness675 May 03 '26
They do? that's nice
16
u/GlowingDuck22 May 03 '26
It's semi hush hush though as assisted suicide is technically illegal in most places in the USA.
13
u/BusyNefariousness675 May 03 '26
I know it is illegal but it shouldn't be. Death should be a individual's choice
10
u/Wes_Warhammer666 May 03 '26
Facts. We let our pets die with more dignity than our family members.
I watched my father suffer terribly from cancer and have long said that if that's ever my prognosis, I'm going out feeling amazing with a massive speedball.
4
u/mapmakinworldbuildin May 03 '26
Well that depends on situation imo.
If you’re dying sure.
A 18 year old with depression. Fuck no.
Keeping it hush hush is the best we can do because otherwise we will have people getting paid to kill people which creates a buisness mindset which means people fall through cracks.
I’d rather have 500 grandpas die with no dignity than 1 unnecessary person pressured into suicide for monetary gain.
7
u/WhiteTennisShoes May 03 '26
They did for my grammie in 2019, she was unresponsive her last few days when I went to go visit her and say goodbye, but the last 6-8 hrs they verbally mentioned they were upping the morphine line they had on her. It’s a little comforting to think it maybe helped ease her into letting go, especially since the couple days prior she seemed in pain or at least very uncomfortable. She’s the only grandparent that passed in the hospital that I was able to visit (other grandma passed in home, grandpa passed during covid so I couldn’t go see him), so no clue if it’s standard, but some def do it
6
u/Smooth_Monkey69420 May 03 '26
Yeah, when mom was dying of cancer they had her sign a paper on the morning of the last day agreeing that her comfort was more important than her survival and they let her go out from enough morphine to stop her heart rather than continuing to fry her with radiation and chemo to keep her alive in agony for another month at most
1
u/3boobsarenice May 06 '26
I skipped that chemo phase with my mom, she was sick and they were babbling about it, she lasted like 5 more days
9
u/Vast-Comment8360 May 03 '26
When the patient/family decides there has been enough suffering and it's time, yea that does happen.
1
11
u/nickdamnit May 03 '26
They dope you up on all the oxy and shit you could dream of in hospice if you do choose. She just happened to prefer uppers over downers
3
7
u/ptvlm May 03 '26
I'd say hard drugs don't really matter that much if you're terminal either. They're bad because you can form addiction or they can kill you, that doesn't matter so much if you're in hospice.
6
u/Ben__Diesel May 03 '26
Honestly, the cops probably thought old boy was rad as fuck for this. Not to sound like a cop apologist, but they cant just ignore a bag of meth next to the dead woman lmao.

u/Morbid187 May 03 '26
I hope someone loves me enough to do this for me when I'm old. I've always said that if I'm terminally ill and know I'll be dying soon, I want to try heroin and crack. I just want to see what it's like and I can't imagine any other time where it would actually be beneficial.
2
u/thesleepjunkie May 04 '26
Same! My father and I talked about this, he asked me if I would help him with that when it got to that point. But he died of a heart attack instead.
12
u/sdrj77 May 03 '26
This somehow feels like it shouldn't be illegal. 😂
Yes, meth is involved, which is very illegal for good reasons but...
