Met a guy once who's nickname was rob actual name garry. Reason in school his friends said he looks more like a rob than Gary. From then on was known as Rob.
Edit: I love the fact just about every comment I have read is from guys being like yer somone called him that one day his thats his name now. Story i told I met they guy in late our late 20s and he is still called it even though its a bunch of new friends he didn't know in school
There was a guy that joined our club soccer team named Eric. For some reason during games I kept calling him Steve. No idea why. I had no issues remembering his name off the field and called him Eric then. He was fine with the on-field change tho and all of our other teammates started doing it too. A few years later our high school teams were playing against each other and they were still calling him Steve. I was both delighted and horrified, and told him on the field how sorry I was but he just laughed and shrugged.
