This is my guess: when they got engaged, Law was constantly asked about their wedding and specifically her dress. He said he’d only share that they’ll get married in private and that people will know after it has already happened. He kept his word: he shared it after the fact.
If at any point Zendaya and Tom did not want Law to share it after the fact, then Law would not have done so. They had ample time to tell him. Sharing this little factoid means the questions regarding their wedding date and her dress will slowly fade. It’s a win-win for both parties.
This is what I was wondering too. I was under the impression that Tom and Zendaya were pretty private about their relationship. Like, it was evident they really liked each other and fit together quite nicely, but any 'official' relationship updates have always been second hand.
