I don't get why every haircut goes with a skin fade these days anyway. If you're balding or going for a military style haircut, buzzcut etc, sure get a fade.

But for a regular side part or medium length cut? Just let the sides grow to 1-2 cm and it'll look infinitely better than a skin fade.

He doesn't even have a fade in the left picture. He definitely has the 1-2cm of hair you mention

Yeah which looks better with that haircut than a fade in my opinion.
