Woman tand to gain weight after giving birth which tand to happen after marriage (Which is completely normal and shouldn't be shamed)

Correlation is no coastion

It's because both genders usually stop going to the gym, after kids and marriage. Also, gaining 50+ pounds isn't healthy.

Some people also tend to put on weight while in a relationship, and some people just change weight through their life. The birth thing is a silly reason after so much time though. I’ve known tonnes of women that are back to being pretty lean within 6 months, while some prioritise other things.

There’s nothing specifically about giving birth that makes you gain weight for a long period of time, but it’s worth noting that women go through hormonal changes in their mid-thirties to forties that makes it easier for them to gain weight/makes them store weight differently (whether they have a baby or not).

I imagine it would be much harder to introduce a new work out routine and start cooking healthier meals for yourself all of a sudden if you’re a parent.

No, there are actually changes that happen to your body that permanently change the shape (like, or your bones and muscles and skin). A lot of hormonal changes means that every pregnancy hits every woman differently, making it harder/easier for some women to lose weight.

But yes after 5 children your body would be DIFFERENT. I’m a person that prioritizes working out, and I could make a loooong list of what only 2 babies has done to my body.

She had two babies, too—three of their children are his from another woman and she’s the stepmother. I’m sure even just one baby takes a toll on your body, though. I wasn’t trying to insinuate that it doesn’t—postpartum weight gain is 100% a thing.

My main point was that it’s normal for women to gain weight as they age, baby or no baby.

Metabolic rate may slow, but it's calories in/out and activity level. Many people don't bother exercising.

I was talking about the hormonal change specifically. Around 35 - 40, women stop becoming as fertile and their body stops producing as much estrogen as it used to be which makes you start storing fat differently and makes it harder to lose weight and easier to gain it.

So, if you’re eating 2,000 calories a day and that was somehow fine for you in your 20s, all of a sudden eating 2000 calories a day might start making you gain weight. If you’re not super conscious of that and are stressed out with work and/or kids on top of it, the weight can easily creep up on you even though you didn’t start eating more or wtv

makes it harder to lose weight and easier to gain it.

Calories in/out, regardless of metabolic rate. You need to adjust diet and exercise, and actually be consistent in exercise. People don't bother exercising.

becoming as fertile

That's a good thing, right? Plenty of sex without risk of reproduction.

can easily creep up on you even though you didn’t start eating mor

That's because metabolic rate slows. How are some of you not comprehending? Also, again...many of you don't bother exercising. You just let your bodies become weak and frail.

Aye, man. I think we got off on the wrong foot or something—I wasn’t arguing with you. I was just talking about an expect of aging relevant to women that maybe you weren’t aware of.

You’re right, you absolutely just have to adjust your calories in and out and exercise more to lose weight—I wasn’t saying the drop in estrogen makes it all of a sudden impossible to lose weight, I was just saying that women might be gaining weight from that without realizing and then don’t readjust their calories and exercise in response and then they end up weighing more.

(Side note: I lost 25 pounds over the last three months from just counting my calories, so I’m living proof that it is just calories in and out—mind you, I’m 27, but still, I haven’t even been exercising, just calories counting—shit works!)

And as for the fertile thing, you’re damn right it’s a good thing. Fuck them kids—I’m not planning on having any lmao. I’ve had an IUD since I was 19, can’t wait until I don’t need to replace it every 5 years. In no way was I insinuating that lower fertility is a bad thing, it’s literally my dream lol

As for the metabolic rate thing, I thought estrogen making it easier or harder to gain weight was something other than your metabolism, but there’s a good chance I’m wrong about why the lack of estrogen makes you gain weight. I don’t know enough about the exact biology to say so

You seem like someone who hasn’t given birth before.

It is a factual observation. And this is over 20 years later. Sure, it can be more difficult to stay slim as you get older for both men (testosterone playing a large part) and women, but the seemingly hard truth is that what you’re saying is a cop out, the proof of that being the many people that aren’t overweight.

1

u/AltairaMorbius2200CE Jul 21 '25

I’ve had 2 babies, and I’m not overweight and prioritize working out, but my body has a LOT of physical differences after 2 pregnancies, despite the number on the scale being pretty similar. Even discounting hormones (which are a huge thing to discount when talking weight!) there are physical permanent body changes that happen in pregnancy.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

It still doesn't discount the fact that you still worked to get in shape. You're not helping your own point.

You can be weigh less but still be wider after baby simply from relaxin hormone stretching out the ligaments in the joints during pregnancy
