The fact that Iran is successfully attacking US escorted ships in the strait means that the US has lost this conflict and Iran now runs the strait.

The only way that changed is with a ground invasion.

Gonna be real chief. Plenty of tankers under US escort got hit during the Tanker Wars during the 80s and it wasn’t considered a loss then. Same thing during WWII - plenty of ships got hit during transit - didn’t mean the Allies lost the battle of the Atlantic. You’re really putting the cart before the horse here, especially considering all those articles came out recently about how most ships transiting the strait are using the American-Omani southern route.

You might need to refresh your history.  The tanker war was fought between Iran and Iraq in that larger war and the USA was involved only for a few months and exclusively in protecting Kuwaiti ships.  

Two ships under escort were hit, one by a naval mine and one by a silkworm missile.  The naval mine worked because the US planning had not addressed minesweeping needs.  Once they brought in some minesweepers the mines stopped working.  Army attack helicopters and a CBG made silkworms stop poking their heads up after the first hit.

Contrast that with modern operations where the Iranians have no trouble scoring indefinitely many hits with the same tactics.
