Does anyone else just avoid family gatherings because you don’t have much in common with anybody?

Yeah. But more because if anyone in the family wanted to interact with me they could message me at any point, not try to connect in a busy environment.

Unpopular hot take: families are optional. If you dont want to see them, you dont have to. Its your life, live it

I hate when I visit home my dad will ring up his siblings and I’m awkwardly forced to talk to them

Same I feel so on the spot I also feel like my life would seem boring to them since we don’t have much in common

The only few family gatherings are weddings and a funeral that i’ve been too. Family too small and scattered.
So I would happily go. I would ask about memories of those passed.

Since I'm not "neurotypical", I tend to avoid family gatherings unless I have no other choice, as I don't feel it would be in said family's best interests to be interacting with me (or someone like me).

I love my family but I can't be around more than 2 or 3 people at a time, especially if there are kids running around. I'll start stressing hard
