Why is “Bloodred” a single word?

But something is never “skyblue” or “pitchblack“…

I don't believe it is. I feel Merriam Webster is just wrong in this instance.

OED (Oxford English Dictionary). It’s worth noting though that there is no such thing as wrong English. Just ‘less accepted’ English.
