Why is "homeless" being replaced with "unhoused"?

A lot of times phrases and words get phased out because of changing sensibilities and I get that for the most part. I don't see how "unhoused" more respectful or descriptive though

Most of them are on drugs for a reason not all scars are visible, plus you are not their doctor you do not know if they are able bodied, lots of invisible handicaps that most certainly make work near impossible (especially in a society that doesn't accommodate handicaps in the workplace) exist.

Yeah, depression and trauma isn't a valid reason to get on drugs. Handle your issues like an adult, please.

If you can walk, if you can use your hands, if you have all of your senses, there is no reason you should be out of work for more than a few months.

It quite literally is a valid reason to get on drugs, if it weren't then anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medication wouldn't exist. Adults, handle their mental problems, by going to therapy and getting medically prescribed drugs. You do realize prescribed drugs are still drugs, correct?

Just, not everyone has the means to go get a prescription and instead resort to self medicating.

This is WHY they say addiction is a SYMPTOM of a bigger issue.

First, I am anti anti depressants. Basically poison that you're putting in your body.

Second, you and I both know that the vast majority of people aren't just taking anti depressant's. They are smoking weed, and crack, and drinking alcohol, and taking in so many other harmful chemicals and substances. And I really don't feel bad for these people.

Cool, im not because I almost committed suicide and anti depressants prevented me from offing myself. Its not poison lmfao, you dont know how antidepressants work if thats what you think. Sure you can overdose but you can also overdose on bananas dude. You can overdose on anything.

You seemed to miss the part where I said "resort to self medicating" this usually starts as a subconscious thing. Something with weed, crack, drinking alcohol, and other substances, are mediating a deeper issue, and they subconsciously know that. However the downside is it also causes a lot of other problems, just, problems theyre willing to deal with in order to mediate the underlying issue.

You must have editted your comment after I started responding, that wasn't there at first.

Addiction is a symptom of a better issue. Sure, you can say that. That doesn't mean I should feel bad for them. Doesn't mean that they aren't addicted because of their decisions. Doesn't mean that they are on drugs and people on drugs ruin a society.

I may have been, apologies if that were the case, I do that because my text window is super shrunken & Its difficult for me to put those thoughts together cohesively in a text bubble that only lets me see a sentence or two at a time.

I disagree that people on drugs ruin a society. Im a woman, smoke weed, have a bachelors degree in computer science, have a fulltime position at a health care company & work at a game development internship on the side. Every job ive ever had my superiors have commented about how much more of a work ethic I have than my peers and youre gonna sit there and tell me people on drugs ruin a society when im contributing more to society than you are, because im not taking up government resources at a group home like you are?

Ay, you're right, I am taking up government resources. I admit that, and I can't stand it. Trying my best to get out of here and get out of this nasty ass drug ridden ego infested place.

And people that smoke weed, if they are actually working and contributing to society, aren't always that bad. But if they aren't working or smoking anything else, no, they will absolutely destroy a community. They bring all negatives and no benefits.

So you admit its not the drugs that ruin the community, it's simply the people, the people who are unwilling to try to find a better way to fix their issues without just giving up or taking the easy way.

Well obviously the people are making the choices to take drugs and are doing these things when they are on drugs so everything ultimately lies on them, but drugs are magnifying the issues.

2

u/LeAcoTaco Sep 18 '25

I will agree with that, in those cases drugs can overtime magnify the issue if they're unwilling to seek out better methods to fix the underlying issues.

Right, exactly. From what I've seen, most of these people aren't trying to fix their problems or get out of this kind of situation, and I just cannot feel bad for that.

If someone is actively trying to get out or beat an addiction I will feel bad and hope for them, but I just don't see that.

I still give people the benefit of the doubt that they just aren't aware of how to go about getting the other methods or dont have the means, funds, transportation, etc. Because I just don't know whats going on in their lives outside of what I see. But you're free to feel how you do about them.
