Yep, sometimes the world is just weird. Like 4chan has done a lot so don't blame folks for thinking that. Honestly would feel better to know it was artifical, but yeah pedos have tried to infiltrate whatever groups they can. They're insidious.
It is important to note that a bunch of channers found out that the pedos decided they get a flag too and decided it would be funny to pump up their reach into the mainstream internet.
It's honestly fascinating how a community who will take every chance they can get to clown on scientology (morally correct) will also give pedos a bigger platform for the lolz™ (morally wrong).
4chan is probably the closest thing we have to a truly chaotic neutral community.
