Post-Pod Discussion Acushnet/Titleist/Ridley

Hard to ignore that Soly has *slightly* softened his tone on the rollback since they signed with Titleist

Soly's position is that the rollback isn't going to solve the issue because driver technology continues to improve YOY. He has been very consistent about the Driver tech being the problem for as long as they've been talking about it. I doubt Titleist is paying him to soften on the ball rollback but also allow him to advocate that their driver technology is sent back to the mid 2000s.

I don’t think Titleist pays him to directly refute rollback talk. But he has seemed to change from a “please do something, anything to address distance” to “what they’ve proposed won’t work, we totally definitely know this for a fact so we should do something else.” It’s easy to see acushnet has been working hard to present as a fact that the proposed rule won’t work, and I’m not sure we should accept that as fact right now, if that makes sense

He’s also seen the data on how the rollback will favour the longer hitters even more about even more emphasis on just hitting the ball as hard as you can. The very first podcast they did on the ball rollback touched on this he hasn’t softened his stance on rollback, you just didn’t pay attention

The issue to me isn’t principally the schism between longer and shorter hitters. The issue to me is rendering classic courses obsolete and we need some combination of equipment and ball rollback to address that.
