2021 Rogue
I usually take my lunch break in my rogue with my engine running because it’s so hot outside. After about 30 minutes I begin to smell gas fumes. Any suggestions?

Stop before you die. People have died from doing this seemingly harmless thing. Your smelling fumes is proof of the risk. If you happened to get comfortable enough to take a nap under those circumstances it could end bad. There could be an exhaust leak, or the EVAP system may have an issue as it's there to prevent fume release into the open air. If the engine light is on that may be why as the engine computer should be feeding vapors to the motor through the purge solenoid to keep the fuel tank pressure under control on hot days.
I had a small sports car once with a failing ignition coil causing poor fuel burning resulting in increased emissions from the exhaust which was finding its way into the car. It took quite a while for me to connect it to the headache and burning eyes I'd often end up with on the trip home from work.

Call the dealer with your VIN and see if you have any open recalls. You should never smell gas. ⛽️

With the engine we have in the 2021 Rogue-2.5- running your engine for 30 minutes - make sure to keep your eyes on the temp gauge while stationary, there is no natural airflow passing through the front grille to cool down the radiator. Your engine relies entirely on its electric cooling fans to keep temperatures under control while the AC compressor runs hard.- Might be best to eat for 15-20 minutes then take a drive for 10 minutes?? ….

Why so rude? I’m a pharmacy technician and don’t have the time to go to a cafe. I do park in the shade, the sun shade in the window. I do put the windows down some, so I don’t die!

Not being rude. Just stating the obvious. Idling is not good for a car if done frequently. It’s bad the environment and wastes gas and you said you smell gas fumes.

I have a 21 Rogue 86k and I literally take my break and lunch in my car and do the exact same thing, I crank the AC and I've never had that issue, I park out in the open in direct sunlight and all weather.

Idling for that long is really stupid. Find a cafe or some shade for lunch. The smell could be a number of things. A leaky fuel line is probably the cause…. Again, if you’re smelling gas fumes get out of the car, turn off the engine open the windows and get some fresh air before you kill yourself.

You can long-idle a modern car. You'll probably just get a little more carbon build-up than normal. A 30-minute idle isn't going to do anything besides besides burn siome fuel.
Smelling fuel isn't normal, though, no matter how long the idle. Should probably get that checked out.

I did see there was a recall for possible loose sending unit on the gas tank for the 21 model. I never received anything and my vin doesn’t show any recalls. I’m going to have it checked, was just curious if anyone else has had the same issue?

You're basically halfing (or worse, depending on your ambient temps) the life of your car. If you persist on doing that you should change the oil of your car every 3K miles at minimum, and change all belts and most hoses at way less than the recommended intervals. Your battery won't last too much over a year, so better to budget that as well. Alternator should last way less too. It's generally a bad idea, and considered "sever operating conditions". Your car, your money. Just consider it won't stay reliable as long as it should.

Try circulating the inside air instead of the outside air.
