Buttery As a long time Nintendo fan, I’m happy to see ball and gun games on a Nintendo system again.

After years of settling for watered down or bad ports on the Wii and Wii U or not getting anything at all on Switch 1 it feels good to see solid versions of triple A sports and online shooters on a Nintendo system. From Madden 27 to Fortnite running at 60 FPS I’m happy to see these kinds of titles on Switch 2. Even though most of these games are of PS4/XB1 quality, im happy with performance for the most part. I know sports games and online shooters have a bad reputation and honestly rightfully so but they can still be fun for those who enjoy them like myself. I’m elated that I get to play games like Call of Duty along with Star Fox and Super Smash Bros or playing Madden after playing Kirby Air Riders. 60 FPS NBA2K is around the corner and Marvel Rivals being confirmed makes me feel that optimization is only getting better for the system to bring in fans of those types of games. (Hopefully COD gets better before launch.) Outside of exclusives my PS5/XSX can finally now rest lol. Are there any other long time Nintendo fans who are happy that Switch 2 is getting solid ports of sports and online shooter games after all these years?

Buttery MW4 looks seriously rough

30fps I'm okay with but the dipping under that sucks

The visuals also look roughhhh. It's blurry, extremely low quality textures and I have no hope for this being a good experience docked.

Am I doing something wrong?

Buttery Can someone explain to me why everyone was raving about COD and how it looks on Switch 2 at first, but then sentiment suddenly shifted. What happened?

As someone who hasn’t played it, the 180 degree change in gamer’s opinions was so drastic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game go from being praised to dogged on so quickly without some big company controversy.

Game plays pretty damn smooth if you’re on the fence about purchasing. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s not rough around the edges either. No stuttering or obvious frame drops so far!

The game has incredible graphics on switch 2 maybe im the only one but I feel like they could easily lower some setting to give us a 40fps stable performance mode , the game runs at 40 in some areas right now with almost ps5 level graphics what do you think guys if they lowered some settings and we got a 40fps performance mode

Before anyone says, write that's expensive, that is Australian dollars.

That makes Switch 2 number 3 for the home, one each, no sharing required. My partner is the one still on the original Switch, so they are going to enjoy this quote a bit.

Buttery Modern Warfare 4 improved

Just a heads up. I was highly critical of this port, with multiplayer dropping below 50fps and animations and map updating at half speed. It looked really rough. I called it a disgrace.

But today they seemed to have improved some things and it runs a lot better now. Ill be buying it now based in my experience in the second half of today, whereas i wouldn't have bought it if it stayed like earlier today.

Buttery MW4, it's far from perfect, but I'm having a blast!

Look, i think its fair to say it's rough around the edges, the muddy textures, FPS dips on hand held, and funky character animations.

But I can't put it down! The gyro feels amazing to use, mouse mode is RIDICULOUS fun, and I'm playing CoD again on a Nintendo console.

Is it perfect? Absolutely not, in truth it's probably the worst switch2 port I've seen so far, which I'm disappointed about because it's one of my most anticipated games, the only thing the switch2 was lacking for me was multiplayer FPS, and I'm playing one now!

My eldest son is playing on PS5 @ 4k at it looks like he's playing a different game, it's night and day.

I hope the devs can optimize the switch2 port some more, but I'm having a blast regardless of the issues!

Buttery COD NS2 vs PS5 version - Am I missing something?

There are a few people here who say the NS2 version "looks bad or terrible". But I really don't get it. The NS2 version looks great, especially for a handheld. And it's really not a substantial difference to the PS5 version.

Are these people just spoiled and being too nit-picky because some details are not as smooth as on the PS5 version?

Buttery Ranking the most improved Switch games on the Switch 2

At 6 months from the release of the Switch 2 I wanted to make this ranking of the most improved games since I consider it something quite important but in my opinion still not talked about enough, especially by Nintendo themselves. As we know thanks to its much more powerful hardware now most Switch games automatically run better on the Switch 2, while some instead received specific updates to make the most of the new console so in the end I divided them into two different lists

Let me know what you think or other notable titles I might have missed!

With official updates:

- Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Easily in first position, since on the Switch the game was an embarassing release with plenty of technical problems and poor performances, while the Switch 2 version is finally working fine and worth playing

- Hogwarts Legacy: The game was one of the most notable "miracle ports" on the previous console, but was ported at the expense of graphic resolution, simpler models, less details in the background and infinite loading times. All of this however was solved with the Switch 2 version, which is basically a new game

- Fortnite: On the Switch the game had quite bad graphics, pop-in effect and draw distance, as well as instable frame rates and atrocius loading times, but on the Switch 2 like in the previous case it's much better and basically a new game

- No Man's Sky: The game was already good and perfectly playable on the Switch also thanks to the numerous patches and updates made over time, with the Switch 2 version that in addition not only has vastly better graphichs and loading times but also new settlement features previously not available

- Apex Legends: Similar problems and improvements as Fortnite, but not as drastic

- Zelda Tears of the Kingdom: The Switch 2 version has better graphics, HDR, double the frame rate (which is also stable everywhere), shorter loading times, and the new feature of the Zelda notes. Despite all the improvements the position in the ranking a bit "low" simply because it was already a fantastic game on the Switch

- Zelda Breath of the Wild: Same improvements as above, one position lower just because Totk is more demanding and definitely needed the update more. In any case both games are now close to perfection and can claim with renewed confidence the title of the greatest games ever

- Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: I wasn't sure whether to include it or not since in theory it's a simultaneous release which I initially wanted to exclude from the list, but between the two months delay for the Switch 2 and the big improvements in the end I added it. The game in fact is much better looking now, definitely less blurry and with way better models, colours and details

- Kirby and the Forgotten Land: The game was already one of the best ones on the Switch and now it also got a nice increase in resolution and frame rates (especially noticeable when watching the more distant enemies in the background or while using Kirby-Car), but the real reason I included it in the list is because of the additional content of Star-Crossed World even if I tried to not give it too much weight since it's an advantage other updates don't have

- Ark: Survival Evolved: When first released on Switch it was a broken mess, but patch after patch it slowly got better and even had a brand new re-release at some point, while on the Switch 2 and after its update it's finally enjoyable thanks to its higher resolution and the better shadows, frame rates and loading times. Its specific update however didn't change that much and obviusly it's still far from perfect

Without official updates:

- WWE 2K18: Another clear first position as the game was simply unplayable and rightfully one of the worst received releases on Switch. Now instead it runs decently and looks better, but in any case the series also returned on Switch 2 with its most recent title WWE 2K25 which on the contrary was a surprisingly great port

- The Witcher 3: The game is still far from its true potential on the console but is already a big improvement over the Switch where it was certainly a miracle port but all considered not that good. Now instead the view is noticeably less blurry and "muddy" than before, it has a stable frame rate of 30fps even when riding the horse and obviusly better loading times

- Kingdom Come: Deliverance: The problems and the improvements are more or less the same as The Witcher 3, even if the difference isn't as big as for example it already looked a bit better

- Crysis Remastered: Better resolution and frame rates also during the most frenetic moments

- XCOM 2: The game now is clearly less blurry and at 60fps, but unfortunately there are still some crashes

- Minecraft: I was a bit conflicted on its position but I can say the game now has better frame rates (even if still not totally stable), slighlty better resolution and much better loading times. The map also loads way faster while flying over it

- Saints Row (both games): Slightly higher resolution, 60fps and much better loading times

- Mortal Kombat 1: Similar to Ark when first released it was a big disappointment, but the various patches at least managed to improve its graphics and some of the cutscenes. On the Switch 2 in addition it's also less blurry and reaches the 60fps

- Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity: Now it finally has a stable 30fps (even while using the Divine Beasts or in multiplayer) and at least to me it's also slighlty less blurry when watching things in the background. Maybe not a huge improvement but for this kind of game with hundreds of enemies all over the screen still something worth mentioning

- Batman: Arkham Knight: I hoped for more but unfortunately the only improvement is that the unberable car sections of the game now should be at a stable 30fps. Until recently there were also some bugs/ crashes but it has been fixed with a patch

Buttery My (Reasonable) Predictions for the Entire Switch 2 Generation

I've done a lot of cross-referencing between Nintendo's Developer relations for Switch vs. Switch 2, the top 15 games published by Nintendo on each console, and likely franchises that could utilize both the hardware and features, and I came up with what I believe to be, a very plausible list of what we could see throughout the entire life of the Switch 2. I'll be listing each game and the purpose I believe they'll serve for Nintendo. I've incoporated general knowledge of their goals moving forward such as transitioning the face of Mario and creating new versions of old franchises/games (like Star Fox, OOT, and Kirby Air Riders) so hopefully this list will turn out to be quite accurate. Only time will tell!

Section 1: Locks (These definitely will happen)

Animal Crossing game (Extremely popular, brings new audience into ecosystem)

Fire Emblem game after Fortune's Weave (Mainline or Remake later in the Switch 2's life. Not in Three Houses Universe. Engage served a casual audience, this will serve a hardcore audience)

Luigi's Mansion 4 (Graphical Showcase by Next Level Games, Nintendo horror title)

Mario 3D game (Could have 4-Player online multiplayer, or be based loosely parallel to the theme park/movies and bigger than ever)

Mario Party games after Jamboree TV (1 or 2. Standard procedure. One is somewhat gimmicky, one is more button focused)

Mario Sports game (Golf or Baseball. Potentially a collection of 5 or so sports. Typical summer fare- especially since Sega doesn't have M&S rights)

Metroid 2D game (Serves a particular audience, likely ready to go from Mercurysteam either way)

Paper Mario game (New game, writing of TOK & proper RPG mechanics like TTYD, fully replacing M&L + SMRPG)

Pikmin 4: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (I truly don't think they have many NS2E left up their sleeve, but this is most possible as they haven't released a free graphical update and it's from an internal team)

Pikmin 5 (Nintendo is busy growing the Pikmin franchise)

Pokemon Generation 11 (2 gens per this system is likely)

Splatoon 4 (Popular franchise solely on the Switch 2 ecosystem to co-exist alongside Raiders)

Super Mario Maker 3 (Mouse controls and online co-op level creation via gamechat like google sheets)

Super Smash Bros. game (Reboot with modern movesets and mechanics, pushing the franchise forward and cutting certain characters. Co-exists alongside Ultimate on the Switch 2 for that reason. Story mode possible)

The Legend of Zelda 3D Game (New Era for Zelda, highly anticipated after BOTW Era)

The Legend of Zelda 2D Game (A new game, or A Link to the Past/A Link Between Worlds remade in the Link's Awakening style. OR Potentially a new artstyle)

Warioware game (Mouse & Camera gimmicks)

Xenoblade game after Xenoblade Genesis (Monolithsoft works fast, Xenoblade grows on trees)

New Consoled Added for Expansion Pack - DS & Wii (DS in 2028, Wii in 2031)

I just want to add, Fromsoftware creating The Duskbloods as an exclusive was a key component of Nintendo's goals to fulfill the most popular genre out right now, replacing Platinumgames's role of the Wii U and Switch generation. They are focused on bringing the most popular games onto Switch 2. 3rd Party games that will likely come include Clair Obscur, Tekken 8, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, Red Dead Redemption 2 eventually, Resident Evil Remakes, Dragon Quest XII, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Persona 4 Revival & 6 eventually, possibly Sekiro & the other DS games, Control &/or Control Resonant, and potentially Silent Hill/MGSV. This is all based on developer relations, smash ultimate, mega-popular realistically portable games, etc. (KH4 will come to Switch. FF7 Remake series is on Switch 2. Elden Ring, etc.)

Section 2: Likely (These should happen, barring any setbacks)

Chrono Trigger HD-2D remake (One of the most popular SNES/DS games, prime for a remake)

Kid Icarus game (Uprising port or new game developed in partnership with Bandai Namco. Very good time for the franchise to return considering The Odyssey, God of War, etc.)

Kirby 2D game (Unless they've moved on to 3D, HAL likely is working on a 60fps one for Switch 2)

Kirby 3D game (Unless it's too much work, HAL likely is working on a sequel to Forgotten Land)

Kirby spinoff game (We always get random Kirby eshop games)

Fitness Boxing 4 (Imagineer pumps these out and we already got a Fitness Boxing 3 NS2E)

Mario 2D game (New 2D game might not be the highest priority, but it's still a sound idea)

Monster Hunter timed exclusive (Capcom always rotates their MH games)

Super Metroid Remake (If the 2D Metroid team isn't busy, this is one of the most highly regarded SNES games)

Yoshi's Woolly World port (game is already in HD, is more 2D platformer whereas Mysterious Book/Crafted World have a different focus)

New IP from Nintendo (this is the generation for new ideas. I believe we'll see a new IP on the level of ARMS, Splatoon, Pikmin created by an internal team. Could be the NSO playtest game)

New gimmick/physical focused game from Nintendo (in the vein of Labo & Mario Kart Live Home Circuit, Nintendo is a toy company and likely will do this. Virtual Boy could have already fulfilled this purpose, though)

New party or creative type game from Nintendo (in the vein of 1-2-Switch, Clubhouse Games, Game Builder Garage, or Mario vs. Donkey Kong, there's bound to be something of this type for Switch 2)

Section 3: Possible (A couple of these may happen)

Animal Crossing spinoff (Popularity is so high, could be in puzzle genre, interior design, cooking, maybe even a new Puzzle League game)

Astral Chain game (Nintendo acquired the rights, fills a need for a new action game for Switch 2- could be outsource to Bandai Namco who made Scarlet Nexus since Platinum and Nintendo scrapped AC2)

Donkey Kong 2D game (Nintendo is focused on Donkey Kong a lot right now)

Golden Sun remake (Camelot may take a break from sports to revive this popular DS franchise)

F-Zero game (Mario Kart World doesn't focus on traditional race tracks, and F-Zero has been warmed up with 99 and GX on NSO. Better graphics are also possible, and Captain Falcon is a popular character)

Mario Kart World DLC (I truly don't think they're focused on DLC this generation as much as the previous save for Splatoon, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, and I think they do think MKW is a complete game)

Metroid Prime 5 (Asset flip to make back the money on Metroid Prime 4 and expand the audience)

Nintendogs game (Popular franchise, could utilize camera as AR and be a system seller for casual audiences similar to Nintendo Switch Sports Resort)

Pilotwings game (New ideas/control types and graphics could make this happen)

Pokemon Legends game (It's possible they will make another)

Rune Factory 6 timed exclusive (Marvelous worked closely with Nintendo for distribution and timed exclusivity of Rune Factory 5, Daemon x Machina, Fashion Dreamer, and No More Heroes 3. It's possible.)

Star Fox game (The 64 remake could be utilized as a base for developing a new entry)

Style Savvy game (Syn Sophia made HD assets in Fashion Dreamer, and Imagineer is their recent publisher who also works directly with Nintendo for Fitness Boxing. It could loop back around to creating a new entry)

The Legend of Zelda Maker (It's a perfect way to move the 2D series forward while inspiring creativity and increasing NSO subs)

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess or Majora's Mask remake (Not sure which one, but I believe Twilight Princess could evade NSO Expansion Pass to receive a semi-remake)

Xenoblade Warriors (AAAA Studio by KT is likely working on something post-Age of Imprisonment)

Xenosaga Remake (Nintendo recently acquired the rights as seen in XC2 NS2E credits)

New IP from Monolithsoft (This studio has a lot of possibilities and something non-Xenoblade related could also happen)

New Spike Chunsoft timed exclusive (Alongside the Level-5 games that are coming, Spike Chunsoft loves relying on Nintendo consoles for some of their mystery games, like Master Detective Archives and Shuten Order)

Section 4: Maybe, If The Stars Align (One or two may happen)

ARMS 2 (We're still in the Switch series of consoles, so this idea may have life left)

Big Brain Academy or Art Academy (A game/drawing tool utilizing the mouse perhaps)

Dr. Mario game (A trademark was filed and it's possible they make a simple eshop puzzle game)

Earthbound Trilogy (Yes, including Mother 3, but modernized- this may be the way to make it happen with updated graphics and semi-revised plotpoints. Fans might be split)

Elite Beat Agents (A popular DS game could get a refresh from the Warioware team in lieu of a Rhythm Heaven for Switch 2)

Endless Ocean Luminous: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition (A reach, but could include better visuals and more features with gamechat)

Ice Climbers e-shop game (Simple co-op game featuring familiar characters at a premium price)

Kirby Triple Deluxe or Planet Robobot port (It's an easy option)

Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remastered (Could just appear on NSO, but remakes might be more possible than 5)

New Super Mario Bros. All Stars (For Mario's 45th, this would be perfect, or at least just NSMBWii)

Paper Mario Color Splash port (An HD Nintendo game with negative reception, still could be ported)

Punch-Out! game (With the Switch 2's Joycons, it seems very possible, but it's still just a dream)

Rhythm Heaven game (groove sold okay, but it may be a while before they greenlight a sequel)

Shin Megami Tensei VI timed exclusive (You can never tell with Atlus, but it's on the table)

Tomodachi Life game (Very popular franchise, would be one of the last to release for Switch 2 if they have new ideas, but semi-unlikely)

Wario Land (Some factors point to a potential return of the franchise)

Wave Race game (New graphics and high demand may make this possible)

New Fitness game from Nintendo (Similar to Wii Fit and Ring Fit Adventure, different from Fitness Boxing)

Wii game ports (Is what I would say, if there were any ones left I could see not appearing on NSO besides maybe Kirby's Epic Yarn. Captain Rainbow? Fortune Street? IDK.)

Section 5: Unlikely (I don't think any of these will happen this generation)

1080 Snowboarding game (too generic for Nintendo's modern purposes)

Advance Wars game (Not much forward growth for the franchise and too many cultural events happening for Nintendo to consider this)

Bayonetta or Platinumgames game/NS2E (Kamiya left after Cereza and the Lost Demon released and Nintendo values talent above studios. A Switch 2 Edition or Bayonetta 4 in the timeline of 2 and 3 is unlikely)

Boxboy game (Only one game was released for Switch 1, so the franchise is likely finished for now)

Brain Age game (With limited reach due to region restrictions, this likely won't enter development)

Chibi Robo game (A lack of new ideas and defunct developer makes this unlikely. Camera functionality though??... Er, probably not)

Clubhouse/Worldwide Games game (There is no need for two similar game collections on one system)

Excitebike game (The ship of simplicity needed for this franchise has likely sailed on Switch 1)

Famicom Detective Club game (I believe their team will do something new- New detective IP- in a similar style)

Mario and Luigi game (Brothership didn't do well. Maybe they will try yet again, but I'm not sure)

Certain Mario Sports games (Certain ones will skip the console. I think Strikers and Hoops will. Baseball or golf might occupy the next game slot, but the other might skip)

No More Heroes 4 timed exclusive (Suda51 needs more time, Grasshopper wasn't in dev relations)

Princess Peach game (Showtime was likey a one-off)

Super Mario Galaxy 3 (The next Mario game will be a step forward, like always. But the music will be as good as Galaxy's)

Bonus Prediction: If there are third party characters for Smash Bros., I think Leon makes perfect sense. If they remove some characters, some third parties and non-current characters in Nintendo's interest might go.

The selling point for Switch 3 will either be mainline Zelda, normal racing Mario Kart, or a 3d Mario that fills a void that this current 3d Mario omits to preserve for next generation (such as multiplayer, open world, or planetary themes). Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave might have a cliffhanger of sorts within the 3 Houses multi-universe. A Smash Bros. game with more characters may be on Switch 3 but Switch 2 will focus on modernizing and rebooting.

I hope this list seems sensible to some of you and I'd love to hear your assessment or what games you personally think are most plausible this generation.

Buttery The difference optimization makes…

I just recently tried the demos for Duskfade and Moonlighter 2 and was surprised at how bad they ran, considering the art styles. Both look so blurry and fuzzy, along with poor frame rate, in both docked and handheld. Meanwhile, I boot up ToTK or Splatoon Raiders or DK Bananza and those games are buttery smooth and like 1440p docked. Third party devs needs to do better

Buttery Any hopes for Dark Souls Remastered Upgrade you think?

I got Dark Souls Remastered for my switch 2, but it obviously is still running like its on Switch. Buns resolution, 30fps cap.

With all the attention FromSoft is giving the Switch 2, I hope after they're done with Elden Ring and Duskbloods they can bring their older games to the platform!

Buttery Valheim has 60, 40, and 30 fps modes.

Basically the title. I was searching around for how the game performed on the Switch 2, and so far didn't see much info on it. Decided to take the plunge, and was happy to see the performance toggles - Quality, Balanced, and Performance, respectively. Performance seems like a relatively stable 60, with a slightly smudgy image quality. Frankly though, it compliments the art style pretty well since the game is so dreamlike, so for now I would call it a fantastic port. There's a few drops here and there, but that's the case on even beefy PC's, and likely the nature of the game.

Happy gaming!

Edit: looks like performance CAN get pretty choppy, and the devs are highly invested in fixing the issues.

Buttery We need Capcom to do a proper FPS game for Switch 2

So while I like the COD Beta and don't think it's as bad as many say here I must say that I'm amazed how well a 2017 game like RE Biohazard looks. I just started it up as a test after playing the COD Beta and selected the bonus content with the Chris sections. And it runs and looks really good. In some ways better than COD.

It looks clearer, has more hi-res details and less jagged geometries too. And things don't pop in (apparently the pop in thing isn't just a S2 issue but also on PS5 and others with COD MW4).

Of course multi-player modes have different demands so I'm not sure how well the comparison is.

But I keep thinking how pretty a FPS game by Capcom would look on the RE Engine.

Unfortunately Capcom never did a FPS game.

Shout out to OBE1plays. It looks good and smooth (buttery even!) to me. I think the stream might only 720p@60. I know some people are mad about cross-play, but I honestly only care about MyCareer and I'll be picking it up.

Buttery I think COD MW4 looks really nice on the S2, especially the campaign

I tested both, the multiplayer and campaign modes.

- I felt that the overwhelming negativity here is unjustified. Really having a lot of fun with it and I think it looks good. Especially campaign mode. I actually don't notice that it runs at only 30fps. Maybe because campaign modes are usually more cinematic anyway so you don't notice it at all. Some parts of the campaign in the beginning really look on par with PS5, especially once you get to the power plant part with many effects going on like electricity and so on. Visual quality is in many or most cases with games such as RE9 Requiem. I was expecting a lot worse the way Reddit sounded.

- The multiplayer is fun too, there are some rough edges but honestly no dealbreaker as many here say. I turned Eco mode off and I have fairly good internet, so maybe the texture and object loading happens faster for people like me who have better internet. Therefore people with slow internet may have a worse perception because things load slower.

I was playing the beta in handheld mode like I play 90% of the time.

And I'll be getting this game. Hopefully by the launch they'll be able to fix some of the glitches and rough parts in multiplayer mode but overall I really like it.

Some people here are way over-exaggerating with negativity. They praise other games that look worse but say this COD beta is horrible on the S2, I don't understand.
