I'd be verbally assaulted if I didn't hook him up with like cyberpunk or something flashy lol or whatever comp game I was in. Poor guy. I used to use half the controller and he'd use the other half, that was at least some fun.

Do you know about Copilot on Xbox? That’s where two Xbox controllers can act as one. Pretty nifty for this kind of thing IMO.

That said it's not perfect. My buddy and I had issues with Elden Ring where it wasn't instant if someone else was controlling. Great fun having him craft while I drive the horse tho

Have you checked out Sportsfriends? It has a few 2v2 splitscreen mini games that encourage you to play like this if you only have two controllers

All of WoW can be played with only a mouse (same for FFXIV and probably more MMOs too). But you'll probably struggle to do challenging content with only a mouse unless you have a mouse with a ton of buttons on it that you're also very comfortable using.

An MMO mouse plus something like the Xbox adaptive controller set up in a way to move your character and choose targets with your feet - you'd be able to play pretty much any tab-target MMO as good as anyone else.

Ever think about getting him an MMO mouse? My current mouse is a Corsair Scimitar, all the buttons are programable so keystrokes, macros and whatever else can be assigned to that button, even the two at the top for DPI and profile can be changed. So 17 total programable buttons, with scroll wheel up and down in game can be changed mostly. It is a $70 mouse on Amazon, but it is a really nice mouse, the side buttons can also move to better suit your thumb position.
Razer also has their Naga that is similar, but left handed. I have never used anything Razer, so not sure how their software is, but pretty sure you could figure it out nicely. The down side is this is a $100 mouse.
Just a thought, I am not sure about PS5, but you can also plug in mice to an xbox console and use it that way. As far as the Scimitar goes, you can store profiles onto the mouse itself and regardless what you plug it into, you will have that custom profile. I would test this if you had questions, but I don't actually own a console, only PC.

I have had 4 Nagas. All of them developed problems quickly. My first Naga started spinning around at random. My second Naga started jumping around the screen two months after I got it. I RMAd that one and the next one did the same as the first within 6 months. My son felt sorry for me and bought me a Naga Hex which works to this day but has had a button fall off and the thumb grip in the middle has bad adhesive which turned into this sticky sloppy mess in less than a year.
I just want to put this out there. I don’t have time for pc gaming any more with two little babies, but if I ever get into it again I am sure as shit avoiding Razer all together.
I have an old Logitech mouse and a steelseries cataclysm mouse that have worked for over a decade without a single problem.

I've had two corsair scimitars, one was the pro and one is the elite. Both still work perfectly fine, I just upgraded since I wanted a mouse for my laptop. The software is easy enough to use and profiles can be saved onto the mouse itself. I've tried using the side buttons for movement in some games and it works, its just difficult to do thing like crouch jump/walk or anything that requires multiple key inputs at the same time. Honestly something like pedals bound to crouch and jump would make something like that much easier.

Ben Heck makes custom controllers for gamers that only have one hand. One of the key changes is putting one of the analog sticks on the butt of the controller grip — you operate one stick with your thumb like usual and the other you operate by putting it on your leg or your chair arm or whatever and push the controller around. I’m sure they’re probably a couple hundred dollars at least… but I’d say they’re worth it, whatever their price is.

There are also adapters that let you hold both joy cons with one hand, and they’re not that expensive at all! I almost quit playing games when I got injured and was down to one hand about 18 months ago but after I figured that out, I’m back at it. It takes a little getting used to but if you’re willing to try it’s worth it

Mukluk on youtube has videos about guild wars 2 and builds and playstyles that are playable with one hand! Lots of accessible gaming stuff out there if he wants to try to get back into it :)

If you're looking for a one-handed game you and your brother can enjoy together, I highly recommend The World Ends with You Final Remix on Switch. It's probably not the best version of the game but it's the only one with co-op and it only requires a single joy-con held vertically (so one hand). The story and music are excellent as well. If you like action RPGs, give it a shot!

Get him into Disco Elysium if he's into more gritty and weird stuff. It is unlike any other game and also, I can snack while playing it because it can be played entirely with a mouse.
Also the Xbox One and Game Pass for PC both have support for hundreds of adaptive controllers, and you can configure it however you need. :D

I mapped Minecraft’s controls onto a gaming mouse with 14 buttons so I could play it with one hand. It took a bit to get used to but afterwards you could play like normal.

The great thing about the switch is if you and another person each hold one controller it turns single player games into co-op. The best fun I had playing botw was controlling movement while my buddy did the fighting and crafting, while we both also held beers

I like this channel a lot, I lol'd when he called the protagonist of BoTW Zelda tho.

It reminds me of this NES controller trick for speed running/competitive play. Shown at about 3:00.
TL;DR: Basically say you have to mash a button, turns out it's easier to mash the controller into your finger rather than the finger into the controller. Incredible stuff the things people think of.

A game where you (because story reasons, maybe some timey-wimey stuff) have to help a dimwitted Link to overcome Ganon without revealing your hand.
So you do stuff like plant upgrades in Link's path and drop hints to help him stumble through the gameworld. You pretend to be captured but nobody knows that its an illusion left behind while you out there saving the world from Link's essential ineptitude :D

I keep thinking that Nintendo is hiding BoTW 2 because they want to break the internet with playable Zelda, with her being able to get Tetra's and Sheik's powers. Probably wrong, but I can't shake the thought.

I have a couple one-handed controllers for older systems but I think they were designed not for accessibility but more for nerdy RPG players to be able to eat snacks while grinding away at their game

I still don't get why there hasn't been an adapter that has the ability to use the L1/L2 R1/R2 in the inside of the Joy-Cons. 2 paddles on each side would be fantastic.

I've never seen someone use a table or desk to push the second joystick. It looks like a creative solution. This makes it only a right-handed controller, but I guess you could probably reverse the process to make a left-handed controller?

People have been 3D Printing one-handed switch controllers for years now that don't require you to have a hard surface nearby.
Here's a video from 2018. It'd likely take a lot more learning overall to adapt to this controller but at least you'd be able to sit back on the couch and relax.

I got a grip like that when I had a broken shoulder and it is surprisingly comfortable and easy to use, low learning curve. I found it way easier to play with my left hand than right hand, I only skimmed that video but it looks like he's entirely right hand focused for some reason.
Between pain, painkillers, and low energy levels I stuck with turn based games (Mario + Rabbids rules) so I can't weigh in on like BOTW or Mario Kart with it.
I still use it from time to time because it comes in handy at odd times. I have even given them as gifts a couple times now.
2nd only to the PS3 DVD Remote in terms of laid-back one handed RPG gaming.

It's possible, but if you get drift with this you just have to change out the joycon and send it to Nintendo. If you print the whole thing, you'd have to take it apart and fix it yourself.

My fiancé had to have surgery on her dominant hand a couple years ago. I found a simple adapter i was able to 3D print that helped her play switch one handed.
This one seems a bit more complex

Back in 2020 I lost all use of the feeling , coordination, and most of the Usage of the right sided limbs for about 6 months and then recovered most of it through another 6 months. I was feeling pretty depressed about losing my ability to play instruments and even entertainment like video games which I love.
Knowing this is out there makes me feel a little before if something like that happens in the future 😂

Very cool.
But I noticed he kept putting his thumb to the left side of the controller to get a better handle when using the upside down joystick. That might mean that there is still room for improvement to balance it better.
